Calling out all members with Traffic control qualifications.

The long-term future of our club depends upon volunteer traffic controllers. At present we are contracting two commercial traffic controllers, and they do a great job. Many thanks. We cannot afford to do so indefinitely, as eventually we will run out of money. (Unless you are prepared to pay 30 dollars per race.)

Currently when we have at least one volunteer traffic controller at our races we break even.

What does it mean to be volunteer traffic controller?
1. You must have some type of Aus cycling membership.
2. As a volunteer you are not employed by the club. There is compensation in the form of a meal allowance and consideration of your fuel expenses.
3. You must hold either a current level 1 or level 2 traffic control licence.

There are many firms offering traffic control training, usually over 2-3 days day with practical and theoretical components.

To obtain a level 2 traffic control licence you must meet the following
Prerequisites:

Hold a current TC1/TMI1 certification
Be 18 years or older
Have at least 40 hours of experience working in a temporary traffic management workplace in a traffic controller role.

If any of our members are interested in doing a level 1 traffic control licence training course the club would be willing to cover your educational costs, obviously in return to your commitment to volunteer for our club.

If you are interested, please contact the club secretary Warwick Nichols

CEL & Auscycling Club Esports Series Race 5 - Wollongong City

Perhaps it was the words "Hill climb" that saw many riders sitting this one out, resting under the donna. The 16.6KM 2022 UCI city circuit course included the nasty 'short but steep' climb of Mount Pleasant which proved to be anything but pleasant. I cannot imagine having to do 12 circuits. Once again Jason English showed his class winning Cat 2. Cat 4 attracted the most riders with 37 club riders having a crack. Trevor Eggins proved he is more than a sprinter winning the event. Gil Milton finally got his act together finishing in a respectable 11th place in cat 5. The prince appears to have a problem with club secretary Warwick Nichols who was once again droned out of the race in cat 6.

With less riders competing overall, the club leaderboard is heading for a significant shake up. One more race to go.

Graded Scratch races
HEZ 04/07/2026

It was a fantastic Winters afternoon for graded scratch racing. A big thank you goes to the commissaire Chris Groves, in house First Aider James Crew, sign in expert Lauretta Mellows and race director/starter Warwick Nichols. Paul Amidy also did a great job with the roundabout clean up.

The racing was hard and fast across the grades. In A grade Sebastian and Grant put the field to the sword with a powerhouse breakaway. In B grade Derrin Lee was determined to make everyone suffer and suffer they did. In the end Felix Buda emerged the winner from an exhausted field. (Yes, those are his riding shoes). In C grade Mark Lyons was the clear winner. I think the handicappers will be having a good look at Mark's form. In D grade Shane Tagg outsprinted the fast finishing Nadine Platt. Ross Murdoch came in fourth and really, he was in the shot for his good looks and the balance he brought to the photograph.

Finally, it was great to again say hello to our club Chaplain Damian Roscoe after his recent health scare. Damian can be seen in one of the photographs contemplating that it is much better to be alive and amongst friends than being a large block of concrete.

Thanks all for making our race meet a great success.

CEL & AusCycling Club Esports Series - Cat 4
Thimphu City
Race report and results

This week we raced a 23km scratch race made up of five laps around the beautifully dark Thimphu City. (everything appears as a mysterious twilight zone on the Mywhoosh platform). The course included a 7percent pinch requiring an all-out gut busting effort. Once again Jason English excelled, winning Cat 2.

Brenden Lewis and I raced in cat 4 after our cat 5 droning last week. We held in until that last pinch. Trevor Eggins finished in the dreaded fourth place in cat 4.

Overall the Newcastle Hunter Cycling club is coming 2nd to the Vikings Cycling club, Only 4 points separate the two clubs. We need all our team member to continue to race to secure a historical Club series win.

Come on NHCC!

Race 3 was an individual time trial through the forests of Mywhoosh's Amazonia.
The course was 17.3km, mostly flat with several short steep wooden bridges to negotiate. Our riders went deep. Jason English was the standout, winning Category 2 and coming third overall. Congratulations Jason. Honorary NHCC member Vladyslav Budonyi of the Ukraine came second in category 5.
