Strength isn’t *just* about lifting AS MUCH AS HUMANLY POSSIBLE.
👇First we need:
POSTURE/POSTIONING- can I set up this move confidently?
RANGE OF MOTION- can I get full range of motion? If not- work from partial to full.
💪Chloe tip: this is especially important during squats, lunges, deadlifts, chest press! We earn full range in the above before adding ANY significant weight.
STABILITY- can I control the eccentric (down) phase? Can I control the ascending (up) phase of the movement?
💪Chloe tip: Shaking/quivering in a muscle at the end of a few hard sets? That’s because it’s challenging & new for your nervous system.
Shaking in a joint? Shoulder/Knee/Ankle/Wrist?
Slow it down & reduce the weight
Then we get to add LOAD!!!
This includes :
💪More reps > going from 8 body weight lunges to 12 body weight lunges etc
💪More Sets > this means adding more cumulative volume aka load!
Last step? ADD More weight!
💜Upper body Push moves such as chest press, overhead press will only increase by 2-5kg at a time (it’s a slow burn!)
These are compound movements (using multiple joints).
💜Upper body isolation exercises (where we use one joint in isolation) such as Bicep curls, tricep curls
💚Lower body Compound lifts are where to add weight.
Adding bigger weights might feel possible in strength month - especially in deadlifts, hip thrusts, squats and lunges (these are compound lifts)
💚——> however! COACH FORM CHECKS
If your form isn’t ready for this you’ll get a loving & kind reminder from your coach to help you get towards that heavier weight *when you are ready*
This is for safety and to ensure your body is *ready* for the load that is coming in the workout!
This will look like Our coaches reminding you to:
💙- go a little slower (the only time we want to see fast reps in strong is overhead clean & press DB or BB- as it’s an Olympic explosive power move)
💙- go a little lower/deeper in the move
💙- guiding you to breathe OUT on the exertion (this is super important for Barbell Back Squats, Deadlifts and hip thrusts)
💙- asking you to pause- at the top of push & pull & hip thrusts, at bottom o
