In our last video in this series, we touched on the calf raise and how important it is for maintaining overall balance.
This week, we’re looking at the tib raise, which strengthens the opposite side of the leg to the calf (the front).
Super important to keep our ankles flexible and strong, particularly as we age!
Next week, we have our first in a series of 2 eclipses happening this month.
We start with a New Moon eclipse and follow up 2 weeks later with a Full Moon eclipse.
Eclipse season can kick up some chaotic energy, as our usually reliable sources of light - the Sun and the Moon - are either partially or totally blocked. This can have a dramatic impact on our vitality, our energy and emotions!
Here are some ways to work with eclipse energy:
💫 Stay extra well fed and hydrated and focus on getting quality sleep, too. You might be feeling more physically depleted than usual, so nourish yourself, BIG TIME!
💫 Slow down where possible. You might like to keep your schedule a little lighter on and around the eclipse days - your regular “get up and go” may be momentarily absent.
💫 Pay attention to feelings, sign and symbols. The universe is helping to realign things in your life right now, so stay open to the magic. Keep your journal handy.
💫 Move the energy through you. You may have a build up of energy, so do some exercise or breathwork to help shift it through you.
💫 Ground yourself. If you’re feeling overwhelmed or out of whack, take off your shoes and stand on the grass, or go for a walk in nature... Anything that connects you back to Earth’s natural rhythm.
Basically? All of the wellness practices that we recommend - double down on those over the next 4 weeks!
Continuing on with slow cooker themed recipes, this week’s was a hit with the whole family 😀
It also gave us plenty of leftovers, which eased the mental load of cooking for the week!
Here’s the recipe…
Ingredients:
4 x chicken breast
2 x cloves garlic, minced
1 x onion, diced
1/2 cup tamari (gluten free soy sauce)
1/2 cup honey
1 tbsp ginger, finely chopped
Salt and pepper to taste
Method:
Place garlic, onion, tamari, honey and ginger into the slower cooker.
Stir to combine.
Add chicken breasts, turning to coat.
Put slow cooker on high for 5 hours.
Once done, shred the chicken breast.
Serve with rice, greens or other vegetables or add to wraps or on top of a salad.
Enjoy!
The final video of our detox series is here, and this one is all about that mental load!
We are definitely in the information age and have so much coming at us everyday! Our bodies are not designed to know what’s happening on the other side of town, across the state or on the other side of the world. However, we are taking in so much everyday - no wonder we feel stressed!
Here are some simple, accessible ways to detox your mind:
📱 The most obvious one is to take a break from social media and put down the phone! Whether that’s giving yourself a curfew at the end of the day or taking a break on the weekend, stopping that influx of information can help.
✍️ Regular reflection. Stopping to reflect on life - what’s working, what’s not, limiting beliefs that are holding you back and words of affirmation to carry you forward - can be incredibly cleansing and useful for your mind. Note when it’s a New Moon; it’s the most supportive time of the month for inward reflection and stillness.
😴 Getting enough quality sleep! Sleep is one of the most underrated things we can do for overall health, and in terms of our mental wellbeing, it’s so important. When we sleep, our brain cleans itself, processing and sorting information and experiences from the day. Prioritise sleep and watch your health transform!
🧘♀️ Meditation is also another great way to clear and settle your mind. Whether it’s following along with a guided session or simply closing down your eyes and focusing on your breathing for a few minutes, meditation is the gift of peace you can give to your mind.
We could go on and on, but these are some of the easiest and most accessible things you can do to support your mental wellbeing.
What’s one thing you can implement to help ease your mental load?
The humble calf raise is an exercise we incorporate into most of our clients programs.
They are so effective at strengthening the lower leg muscles… Stronger calves aid in providing support for your knees and ankles, leading to better balance and reduced risk of injury.
If you’re looking to maintain strength, balance and mobility as you age, this is a great exercise to start with!
Check out the video for variations for every stage 😀
✨ ASTROLOGY UPDATE ✨
We are in for some definite vibe shifts this week with the Sun moving into Leo ☀️
The Sun is the ruling planet of Leo, so it feels extra at home in this part of the zodiac. You can expect an uptick in vitality and confidence 💪
Also, Jupiter is in Leo for the first time in 12 years, giving the sign of the lion even more energy and support!
And finally, Mercury - our planet of thinking and communication - stations direct again. It’s appeared to move backwards over the past few weeks due to its orbit, which has brought on some deep introspection, emotional healing, sensitivity and intuition.
Mercury will speed up again in the coming days and weeks, so we can expect more clarity with our decision making and everyday conversations…
Oh and there’s also the lunar nodes shifting signs this week into Leo and Aquarius, highlighting themes of leadership, community and pride.
So yeah, there’s a little bit going on… My advice (if you’re feeling a bit overwhelmed) is to exercise - Leo is a fire sign, so excess energy can build up in the body if you don’t move through it!
Following on from our post about physical detoxification, let’s talk energetic!
We are all made of energy - you, me, the chair you’re sitting on, the car you drive, the food we eat.
It’s all energy, vibrating at different frequencies.
And just like our physical body needs a bit of support from time to time, so does our energetic body.
Years of storing emotions, traumas, memories, as well as the energetic load of EMFs, wifi, etc, can overload us big time, leading to all sorts of physical ailments, aches and pains.
Here’s some ways to cleanse your energy:
1. Reconnect with nature. Walk bare feet on the ground, go for a hike and breathe in the forest air, swim in the ocean. The earth has a natural frequency and immersing yourself in her beauty recalibrates your energy field.
2. Perform breathwork regularly. Conscious breathwork can help with so many things and when focused on cleansing chakras or different points in the body, it can clear our field of dense, stuck energy.
3. Sound healing, mantra or chanting. As I mentioned earlier, we are all vibrating at a certain frequency and different sounds can help support our energy system. There are so many free guided meditations and practices on YouTube or Insight Timer - just lie down and follow along.
There are so many ways to support our energy system, and in today’s world, we need to tend to it regularly!
What’s one idea you can implement today to help with your energetic load?
This beef brisket recipe is so simple and easy to throw together!
The best thing is, you can put all the ingredients into the slow cooker in the morning and by dinner time you have a tasty, nutritious meal. I love my slow cooker!
Ingredients:
1-1.5kg beef brisket
1 tbsp salt
1 tsp pepper
1 tsp dried oregano
4 garlic cloves, minced
1 onion, sliced
2 cups beef broth or water
3 tbsp tamari (or soy sauce)
1/4 cup tomato sauce
500g baby potatoes, sliced in half
4 carrots, roughly chopped
Method:
Place the brisket in the slow cooker, fatty side up.
Combine salt, pepper and oregano into a bowl. Rub over the surface of the brisket.
Add garlic, carrots, potatoes and onions to the slow cooker.
Combine the tomato sauce, water/broth and tamari in a bowl. Pour over the meat and veggies.
Put the lid on the slow cooker, turn it on to low and leave to cook for 8 hours.
Come back 8 hours later and serve!
Our world today is full of toxins.
Whether it’s through the air we breathe, the food we eat or the energy we’re interacting with, the toxic load is huge!
That’s why it’s more necessary than ever to support our physical and energetic bodies as much as possible through detoxification processes.
Today, we’re going to focus on the physical!
Here’s 3 simple things you can do for detoxing your body:
🎗️Support your natural detoxification organs - the kidneys!
We all have an inbuilt detox process, and that is the kidneys. They filter waste from your blood and remove it through urine. To do this effectively, we need to support our kidneys by staying adequately hydrated and eating lots of whole foods (organic meats, fruits, vegetables, seeds, herbs, etc).
💪 Sweat and circulate the blood through exercise and regular saunas.
Exercise is one of the best things we can do for health. Movement circulates blood and aids in lymphatic drainage, both super supportive for detoxification. Sitting in a sauna for 15 minutes a few times per week has been shown to aid in eliminating toxins, such as heavy metals, and is another winner for boosting blood flow!
🍶 Take activated charcoal (use sparingly).
Activated charcoal binds to toxins and poisons in the body, and can be used from time to time as an extra support. It’s a powder that can be mixed with water. Just be sure to take it a few hours away from food and medications, as it’s so effective that it binds to the good/helpful stuff, too! Have a glass after a night out and it will bind to the alcohol overnight and aid in avoiding a hangover... So I’ve heard 🤪
And last little tip.... Do kidney cleanses work? The official science is out, but from experience, doing a cleanse once or twice a year can be supportive for feeling healthy. But cutting out foods and nutrients on a regular basis can be damaging - that’s why relying on a healthy diet full of whole foods, as well as our natural detox system - the kidneys - is much better for overall wellbeing 🙌
