Post-race blues are a thing.

You spend weeks building towards a race — training, planning, obsessing over the weather, nutrition, the bike and the course. Then race weekend arrives with this massive hit of energy and excitement.

And then suddenly, it’s over.

I had an incredible day at Amy’s, came away with a result I’m really proud of and qualified for the World Championships in France next year. But even after a great result, that post-race flatness can still creep in.

The bike’s unpacked, the photos are posted, everyone’s gone home and life goes back to normal.

I’m already back training for my next race, but that doesn’t mean motivation is automatically sky-high. Sometimes it’s simply about getting back on the bike, doing the work and remembering that consistency — not motivation — is what got you there in the first place.

Anyone else get those weird post-race blues?

We still need a few cyclists for tomorrow!

We’re filming with Ride Ballarat ambassadors Matt Keenan and Matilda Raynolds tomorrow and are still looking for a few riders to join us between 10.45am and 3.20pm.

You’ll be riding sections of the new Ride Ballarat course, including some gravel, while we capture promotional footage for the event.

No need to be a racer — just bring your bike, your kit and be happy to get in front of the camera.

If you’re free and keen to be involved, send me a message ASAP and I’ll send you the details.

Come and help us show off Ride Ballarat!

Well, the result is one thing, but honestly, I’m just so happy with how I rode yesterday.

Really well.

I climbed strongly, absolutely nailed my nutrition and hydration, and when I hit the Great Ocean Road I found myself in a group and ended up working bloody hard with a really strong rider. We made a pretty good team. I spent majority of the time on the front pushing the pace.

It was one of those days where all the pieces almost just came together. The training, the bike, the fuelling, the legs and actually making good decisions while racing.

And most importantly, I had the BEST day out there.

That’s the part I’ll remember most.

France 2027! Let’s see if I can qualify for gravel too!!!

Well, that was a pretty bloody good day on the bike.

4th in my age group.
28th female overall.
And I’ve qualified to represent Australia at the UCI Gran Fondo World Championships in France next year.

Still wrapping my head around that last one.

World Champs. France. 2027.

How bloody cool is that?

I went into Amy’s wanting to see what I could do, and I came away with a result I’m genuinely proud of.

Apparently I’d better start learning some French.

Tomorrow we race.

Bike is ready. Kit is laid out. Food is sorted. Alarm is set ridiculously early.

There’s not much left to do now except try to sleep and not overthink every single thing I’ve done for the last few months.

I’m excited. I’m nervous. And I’m very ready to see what I can do out there tomorrow.

Whatever happens, I’m going to race hard, enjoy it and hopefully have a bloody good day on the bike.

BALLARAT CYCLISTS — I NEED A FEW OF YOU!

We’ve got a pretty exciting day planned this Wednesday with Ride Ballarat ambassadors Matt Keenan and Matilda Raynolds coming to town for our next filming day.

As part of the filming, I’m looking for six cyclists to come along around lunchtime and ride a section of the new Ride Ballarat course while we capture some footage.

We’ll be heading out to one of the gravel sections of the course, so you’ll get a little sneak peek at what we’ve got planned for November and help us show everyone what the new Ride Ballarat is all about.

You don’t need to be a racer or anything fancy — just bring yourself, your bike and be prepared to possibly end up on camera!

It’ll be Wednesday around lunchtime in the Ballarat area.

If you’re keen, send me a message or comment below. I only need six riders, so first in best dressed.

And if you know someone I should rope into it, tag them below. Matthew Keenan Matilda Raynolds Fiona Elsey CRI Ride Ballarat Ballarat Sebastopol CC - Road Eureka Cycling Club Cyclescape Ballarat

Well… something new is coming.

I popped into Cyclescape and finally got to unwrap a little something I’ve been waiting for.

At the moment, it’s not technically a new bike.

It’s a box, a frame and a whole lot of potential.

Now it’s over to Matt to work his magic and turn it into what I have planned.

I’m not giving you the full reveal just yet, but I will give you one clue…

This one is made for getting dirty.

Full build coming soon. Big thanks to Cervélo Australia Cervélo for looking after me, how hot is the limited edition pink, available in frame set only! Available to view in store now, just no touching 😉

2 DAYS TO GO.

At this point I’d love to tell you I have a beautifully detailed race plan and I’ll execute it with absolute precision.

The actual plan:

Eat.
Drink.
Don’t go out like an idiot.
Probably go out like an idiot.
Regret going out like an idiot.
Recover.
Keep pedalling.

I’ve done the training, the bike is ready and the carb loading is well and truly underway.

Now I’m getting excited.

Amy’s Gran Fondo — nearly time to see what all those hours on the bike have actually built.

And today’s training session is… nothing.

Yesterday was my last hard session before Amy’s, so today is a proper rest day.

This is probably one of the harder parts of race prep for me. I’m very good at doing the work. I’m considerably less talented at doing nothing and trusting that the work is done.

But recovery is training too.

There’s nothing to gain by trying to squeeze extra fitness out of the final few days. Now it’s about letting the legs recover, absorbing the work I’ve done and arriving at the start line ready to use it.

So today I rest.

And try not to convince myself that an “easy little ride” would be a good idea.
