Three dedicated Saturday sessions designed to develop the skills, decision-making and confidence of our MCC juniors ahead of the season.

📅 SATURDAY 29 AUGUST — BATTING CRAFT

Net 1 — Strike Rotation
Working on late hands and using the crease to create angles before the ball is bowled.

Net 2 — Power Hitting
Using tennis balls to help players find their power through their lower body and wrist hinge.

Net 3 — Playing Spin
Practising using the feet down the wicket and depth of the crease, before applying those skills through decision-making scenarios.

📅 SATURDAY 5 SEPTEMBER — BOWLING DEVELOPMENT

All bowlers will begin with upper-body activation and technique work before moving into the nets.

Net 1 — Fast-Bowling Technique
Run-up work using cones, adjusting the run-up for left-handed batters, and using hurdles and cones to develop a strong gather and explosion over the front leg.

Net 2 — Fast-Bowling Targets
Practising different lines and lengths using targets, before testing bowlers by calling the required delivery and challenging them to execute.

Net 3 — Spin Bowling
Working on use of the crease, trajectory and side spin.

📅 SATURDAY 12 SEPTEMBER — BATTLEZONE

Time to put it all into practice.

Depending on numbers, players will take part in a full Battlezone or competitive nets, with batters working in pairs and game scenarios creating a genuine contest between bat and ball.

Three weeks. Plenty of reps. Plenty of competition. A great opportunity to build skills and confidence before the season begins.

🌟STEVE WELLS🌟

Following last week’s AGM, it gives us great pleasure to officially induct Mornington Cricket Club’s newest Life Member, Steve “Ratta” Wells.

237 games for the club, 129 of them as captain, and sharing the field with 314 teammates along the way.

Add to that everything he’s put in off the field, from many hours coaching and helping out the juniors to his contributions on the committee, Ratta has been a key figure at the Kennel for many years.

This capped off a great end to the season, with Ratta captaining the 4th XI Premiership and finally getting that well deserved medal he’s been chasing all these years.

Congratulations Wellsy and family — here’s to many more years to come.
