Harvest might be the end of this crop, but the information coming out of it can help shape the next one.

Where did the crop perform?

Where did it struggle?

How did different areas respond to what you did throughout the season?

When yield data is combined with the information you've collected through planting and crop care, you start building a much clearer picture of the paddock.

That can help inform decisions around planting, inputs and crop management the next time around.

One season's results become the starting point for the next.

Getting the crop off is one thing.

Knowing exactly what came off — and where it came from — is another.

Yield monitoring can record crop performance and moisture across the paddock as you're harvesting, building a map of how different areas actually performed.

Not what you thought happened.

What actually happened.

And in a season where every tonne matters, that's useful information to have.

Don't just harvest the paddock. Learn from it.

Harvest has a habit of feeling a long way off… until suddenly it isn't.

While you're going over belts, bearings, fronts and everything else mechanical, don't forget about the technology that'll be working alongside it.

Guidance.
Displays.
Yield monitoring.
Moisture sensors.
Data recording.

There's still time to sort out the things you've been meaning to fix, upgrade or understand before the first crop comes off.

Much easier to sort it now than on day one of harvest.

Harvest isn't the beginning of your crop data.

Planting is.

Where you planted.
When you planted.
What happened in each part of the paddock.

As the season progresses, application records, crop performance and eventually yield can add more layers to that picture.

Instead of looking at each job as an isolated pass through the paddock, you're building a record of the season.

Then when harvest arrives, you've got something much more useful than a yield number.

You've got the story of how you got there.

Straight rows might be the most obvious result of good guidance.

But they're not really the point.

During planting, accuracy affects where every row starts, where the next pass runs and how consistently the machine follows the intended path across the paddock.

And those same rows are going to be followed again.

Spraying.
Fertilising.
Irrigation.
Picking.

Get the foundation right at planting and you're setting up more than one job.

You're setting up the season that follows.

Cotton planting is getting underway again across the region.

And for all the technology that comes later in the season, plenty is decided right here.

Where the seed goes.
How consistently it goes in.
How accurately every pass follows the last.

Good guidance and steering aren't just about making straight rows look good from the road.

They're about putting the crop where you intended from the very first pass.

Here's to another cotton season.

The latest crop forecasts are out, and northern NSW is looking at a tougher season than we've had over the last few years.

That makes getting the most out of what's already in the paddock even more important.

Accurate guidance.
Section control.
Rate control.
Knowing exactly where your inputs are going.

None of that can make it rain.

But it can help make sure you're not unnecessarily doubling up on chemical or fertiliser, missing areas, or putting expensive inputs where they don't need to be.

In a bumper year, a bit of waste can be easier to overlook.

In a tighter season, every pass matters.

There's finally a bit more moisture in the profile across parts of northern NSW.

After a difficult start to the winter cropping season, the recent rain has given plenty of crops something to work with heading into spring.

Now comes the interesting part.

Watching how different areas of the paddock respond, keeping an eye on crop development and making the right decisions about what goes on - and where.

This is also where the information coming from your machinery starts becoming valuable.

Yield maps, application records and crop data aren't just something to look at after harvest. They can help build a better picture of what's happening across the paddock throughout the season.

The crop's growing. Now's the time to pay attention to what it's telling you.

Early forecasts are suggesting this year's winter crop might not be the bumper harvest we've become used to over the last few seasons.

That makes getting the most out of what does come off even more important.

Harvest cart weighing and yield monitoring give you accurate information about what's coming off each paddock, how different areas have performed and what's actually going into each load.

Less estimating. Better records. More useful information to take into next season.

We might still be a little way off harvest, but now's a good time to make sure you'll be measuring what matters when it arrives.

Because if every tonne counts this year, it's worth knowing exactly where it came from.

Not every wet-day job needs a grease gun.

If the weather keeps you out of the paddock for a while this week, it might be a good opportunity to give the technology in the cab a bit of attention too.

Software and firmware updates.
Old field data that needs sorting.
Settings you've been meaning to look at.
Operator questions you've been meaning to ask.

They're easy jobs to keep putting off when there's work to be done.

A wet day isn't a bad time to finally get around to them.
