Caboolture Speedway - Moodlu Dirt Circuit

The inaugural Solo Rally event at Caboolture Speedway, organised by the Northern Districts Sporting Car Club, November 1972. This is NDSCC member Mick Barry having a go in his Corolla.

November 1972 saw the first of the Solo Rally events at the Caboolture Speedway, organised by the Northern Districts Sporting Car Club. It was pretty well run anything you like, not sure who this is pushing his Kingswood HG Utility hard through the bottom corner.

Northern Districts Car Club ran a series of events in the early 70's at Caboolture Speedway under the banner of the "Solo Rally", CAMS sanctioned road events run on a closed circuit sans navigator. This is Mick Barry having a go in his Toyota Corolla in the inaugural event in November 1972.

Events like the NDSCC's Solo Rally gave me a chance to have a drive as well as take a few photos, this was my 1800cc Volkswagen at the first Solo Rally in November 1972.

Thanks to Pete Garbett for taking some photos of the old Caboolture Speedway site this morning. Not much recognisable there, the site of the circuit was used as a stockpile area for the adjoining quarry for many years so virtually nothing remains. The haipin at the bottom end of the circuit is about 1/3 of the way from the lhs of this photo. There is also a short video on YouTube - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=c75XdLMlQOE
