Winter sport is winding down, and for a lot of teenagers that means training stops too. Keeping active through the off season and over summer is one of the best things young people can do, whether they're preparing for pre season or simply want to stay fit and feel good over the warmer months.

Our Teen Gym classes are a great way to keep the momentum going. Fully supervised sessions for 12 to 17 year olds, run Monday, Wednesday and Friday from 4.30 to 5.30pm. Participants learn about warming up, cooling down and the correct use of weights and cardio equipment in a safe, fun environment. Sessions are tailored to suit any fitness level, so whether your teenager is a regular at the gym or just getting started, they'll be in good hands.

Not sure if it's the right fit? We offer a Teen Gym Try It Pass so they can try one class or all three in a week before joining.

Come in and check it out. It could be just what they're looking for.

Optimizing Water Safety Skills During School Holidays: The 40x7 Formula

Research suggests that children require approximately 40 swimming lessons per year for 7 years to achieve minimum water safety proficiency. This 40x7 Formula can be fulfilled through term classes or holiday programs, with assessments every 4-6 lessons to monitor progress at their own pace.

For families who find it challenging to fit in lessons during the busy school term, our holiday programs offer a convenient alternative to accumulate the necessary hours. At Healthways, we provide swimming programs during every holiday break, designed to support your child's progress towards completing their 40x7 journey.

From around the age of 30, the body begins to lose muscle mass gradually. By 50 that process has typically accelerated, and without some form of resistance training it affects everything from balance and posture to energy levels and the ability to do everyday tasks with ease. πŸ‹οΈβ€β™€οΈ

The good news is that muscle loss is not inevitable. Strength training, even modest, regular sessions, has been shown to slow and reverse it, at any age. The body's ability to build and maintain muscle doesn't switch off. It just needs the right stimulus.

For older adults, stronger muscles mean better balance, which reduces the risk of falls; better joint support, which can ease the load on knees hips and the lower back; and a more resilient body that recovers faster from illness, injury and the general demands of daily life.

Strength training doesn't have to mean heavy weights or anything intimidating. Resistance bands, light dumbbells, bodyweight exercises, functional movements and machine-based training all provide benefits. Or aqua classes are an excellent option too. Water provides natural resistance through every movement, making them highly effective for building and maintaining muscle while being gentle on the joints. What matters is consistency and progressive challenge over time.

There are plenty of ways to add more strength training to your routine at Healthways. Join a group class, build it into your individual gym program, or work one on one with a personal trainer. Come and have a chat with one of our trainers to find the best fit for you, or check out our class timetable and book in today. πŸ’ͺ
