💚💛 And of course, after all the tension, nerves, yelling, cheering and heart-stopping moments of Grand Final Day, there was only one thing left to do… head to the Highlands Hotel and celebrate being part of this slightly unhinged hockey family.
And to say the Mittagong after party was fun would be a massive understatement.
There was karaoke. Some of it was actually pretty good. Some of it was performed with enormous confidence despite having absolutely no business being anywhere near a microphone. There was singing, shouting, belly laughs, daggy dancing, questionable song choices, many a mutter of "how are YOU getting home" and probably a few questionable life choices thrown in for good measure.
There were five-way conversations where nobody really knew who was talking to who, stories that got louder and more exaggerated as the night went on, plenty of laughs, plenty of food, plenty of beer and several moments that are probably best left at the Highlands Hotel and never spoken of again.
There were sore & sunburnt bodies suddenly discovering they could dance, people who had spent all day running around a hockey field somehow finding enough energy to keep going well into the night, and enough terrible singing to ensure none of us will be receiving a recording contract anytime soon.
But underneath all the carry-on, the dodgy karaoke and the dancing that should probably never see the light of day again, was exactly what makes this club so bloody special.
Players, partners, supporters, friends, old faces, new faces, winners, runners-up and everyone in between, all together celebrating another fantastic season of Mittagong Hockey.
Because when the final whistle blows, the sticks get packed away and the scoreboard gets switched off, it really doesn't matter which team you played for or what grade you were in.
We're Mittagong.
We're one club, one big slightly crazy hockey family, and that's exactly how we intend to stay.
What a season. What a Grand Final Day. And what a way to finish it.
