Highlands Golf Club - Story of the Week

Sometimes you just hear a story from the week that was that just has to go to print and this week we have a special tale to tell. To protect our informant, we will refer to him as Mr B.

Mr B informed us that during last Wednesday's competition two of his playing partners had misadventures with their Golf Buggies. The first was JC who tried to push his buggy between the green and the back bunker on the 2nd. Unfortunately it did not end well for JC whose buggy ended up in the bunker with all of its contents strewn across the sand. Sorry Matt, Duncan and Josh if you had to spend an extra hour fixing up the bunker. You can send the invoice to JC.

Then only 5 holes later, SM was up near the small dam on the 7th (apparently it was his fourth shot!!) and while getting ready to play his ball, his electric buggy took off and ended up in the dam. Luckily it fell seat side down saving the electronics from shorting out. Mr B said they spent the next 3 holes getting the water (and a couple of fish) out the bag. A trail of water followed SM down the fairway on the 8th!! SM even said he took the bag home and put it in front of the fire where after 3 days it finally dried out.

Hearing this tale, Josh quickly erected temporary fencing on the 18th to ensure SM finished his round without further incident. We've now asked SM to attend the Buggy Navigation Course (BNC) while his licence has been suspended.

Saturday 12 September

An absolute belter of a day for yesterday's Single Stableford and 2BBB event at the Highlands Golf Club. The course is really coming on after the Spring weather arriving a few weeks ago. Josh, Duncan and Matt have been doing an incredible job and the course is playing beautifully. The greens will quicken up over the next few weeks after getting their "top up" last week.

In A Grade, it was a battle of the 10 handicappers with Martu Hymann finishing 3 points clear of Tim Pratt with and 6 clear of Dean Holton who filled the minor placings. Back to Back birdies on 4 and 5 and one on 13, helped Marty on his way to top spot. Matt Kelly took out the Gross Stableford event with 33 points that included birdies at 2 and 14.

In B Grade, it was one of our late finishers, Wayne McDonnell who finished on fire reeling off 24 points on the back nine including a 4 point birdie at the 14th. Club President, Dave McKinnon wasn't too far behind as he rattled off 22 points not he back win with a 4 point birdie on the 12th. Cooper Hudson was a couple of points back after a 4 point birdie on the 18th.

In C Grade, Karen Sheargold warmed up for the mix foursomes championship with an impressive 44 points. Karen compiled a great 23 points on the fromt nine and backed it up with 21 points on the back nine. Daniel Meldrum, enjoyed his day out at The Highlands after coming home with 23 points to finish a point back of Karen. Greg Tye also joined the 40 club after an impressive 22 points on the front nine.

Saturday 5 September - Monthly Medal - Dick Carter Memorial

A spectacular day greeted players for the Dick Carter Memorial Day and the September Monthly Medal. There weren't a lot of spots left on the day and so it was a hotly contested competition.

In A Grade, Deb Finlaison went one better than her second place in August to win the day after back to back birdies on 6 and 7. Despite a minor hiccup on the 9th, Deb finished a shot clear of Nick Bell with Tim Pratt finishing in 3rd.

Club Captain, Mal Lindsay was the Gross A Grade winner shooting 81.

In B Grade, it was our visitor from Lakeside at Camden, Stuart Hobden who won the grade after a nearly flawless back nine, Jock McIllhatton also had a great back nine to finish 3 shots back alongside Andrew Treloar

Scott Barber had a day out after shooting 80 to take out the B Grade Gross event. Scott also took out the Monthly Medal.

In C Grade, Barry Young took a liking to the back nine as well coming home strongly and won the day finishing 3 shots clear of Peter Tomlinson with Trevor Campbell a shot further back in third.

The C Grade Gross event was taken by Gary Turner shooting 88.

Open Blues Jam Night - Monday 14 September

The weather is warming up and so is the music at The Highlands Golf Club, with .hauptberger.music back for the September edition of the Open Blues Jam Night. Be part of the entertainment and bring along your instrument to join in the music. Dinner is from 5:30 pm with the music kicking off at around 6:00 pm.
