Vale Ray Bassett

It is with great sadness that Mernda Cricket Club acknowledges the passing of former player Ray Bassett.

Ray played an important role in the relaunch of the club during the mid-1960s and was a valued member of the Mernda family. A dependable opening batter and a handy part-time bowler, Ray’s contribution to our club and its history will always be remembered.

Our thoughts and deepest condolences are with the Bassett family and all who had the privilege of knowing Ray during this difficult time.

Rest in peace, Ray. 💙❤️

Junior Registrations Are Open — 2026/2027 Season 🏏

Mernda Cricket Club is excited to announce that junior registrations for the 2026/2027 season are now open!

This year, we're focusing on quality over quantity. Team numbers will be capped to keep our focus on strong coaching, good culture, and real development for every junior player.

Because spots are limited, we can't guarantee a place if you register late. Once a team is full, it's full. Team nominations will be finalised and submitted to the DVCA shortly after registrations close, so don't wait to lock in your child's spot.

The Mernda Cricket Club extends its deepest condolences to the Fitzgerald family, friends, colleagues, and students of Nathan Fitzgerald following his passing.

Nathan made a lasting impact on our community through his dedication as a teacher at Mernda Central College, touching the lives of so many young people and their families. His kindness, commitment, and positive influence will be remembered by all who had the privilege of knowing him.

Our thoughts are with everyone at Mernda Central College and all those mourning this heartbreaking loss. May you find strength in the memories you shared and the legacy Nathan leaves behind.

After a few seasons away from the field, we’re thrilled to announce that James Taylor will be pulling on the red and blue again in 2026/27!

Since first joining the club in 2019, Tails has been a loyal Mernda family member, leading our First XI through several COVID-affected seasons before stepping away and supporting the club from the sidelines more recently. He brings a wealth of cricket experience back with him and will play a key role with the bat, and in mentoring and developing our young group!

Join us in welcoming Tails back to the fold ❤️💙
