🥋 THE TAEKWON-DO WE TAKE WITH US
At Harmonious Dojang Australia, we believe Taekwon-Do is about far more than kicks, punches, patterns and self-defence.
Every class, we recite the ITF Student Oath and the Five Tenets of Taekwon-Do:
Courtesy
Integrity
Perseverance
Self-Control
Indomitable Spirit
And our Student Oath reminds us:
• To observe the Tenets of Taekwon-Do
• To respect instructors and seniors
• Never to misuse Taekwon-Do
• To be a champion of freedom and justice
• To help build a more peaceful world.
But saying these words is only the beginning.
At Harmonious Dojang, we regularly talk about what they actually mean in everyday life.
🥋 Courtesy — How do I treat my family, classmates, teachers and the people around me?
🥋 Integrity — Do I do the right thing when nobody is watching?
🥋 Perseverance — What do I do when something becomes difficult or I feel like giving up?
🥋 Self-Control — Can I control my words, emotions and actions, especially when I'm frustrated or angry?
🥋 Indomitable Spirit — Can I get back up, learn from setbacks and keep moving forward?
These lessons don't stop when we leave the dojang.
They belong at home, at school, at work, on the sporting field and in our community.
We want our students to become people who show respect when it's difficult, make good choices when nobody is watching, persevere when things don't go their way, control themselves when emotions are high, and stand up for what is right.
That's why we practise these principles again and again.
Because our goal isn't simply to create better Taekwon-Do practitioners.
It's to help develop better people.
The belt around your waist tells a story about your training.
But the way you treat others tells the story of your Taekwon-Do.
At Harmonious Dojang Australia, we hope that when our students walk out the doors, they take a little of the dojang with them — and that the values of Taekwon-Do become part of who they are.
“I shall build a more peaceful world.” 🥋❤️
