HOOP TIME | COACHING IN ACTION

Last week, our Year 9/10.1 Basketball Academy students had a great day at Cardinia Life, coaching teams from Beaconsfield Upper Primary School at their Grade 5/6 Hoop Time tournament.

The day gave our students a great opportunity to put into practice some of the learnings from the coaching unit they have been completing in their Basketball Academy theory classes. It was great to see them take responsibility for their teams, communicate with the players, manage rotations and provide coaching and encouragement throughout the day.

All of the Beaconsfield Upper teams competed extremely well, with the All Star Boys making it through to the Grand Final and the Future Star Boys also having a great tournament.

Days like this are a great experience for our Basketball Academy students to see the game from a different perspective and develop their leadership and coaching skills. We were really impressed with the way our Year 9/10.1 students represented Berwick College and worked with the younger students throughout the day.

A big thank you to Beaconsfield Upper Primary School for having our students involved and giving them the opportunity to coach their teams. Beaconsfield Upper Primary School

CHAMPIONS CUP – U17 BOYS ARE GRAND FINAL BOUND!

Another huge day for the Berwick College Basketball Academy at the Champions Cup Elite 8 at the State Basketball Centre.

Following on from the success of our Junior teams yesterday, our U17 Boys went through the day undefeated, producing four strong performances to book their place in the Champions Cup Grand Final.

Berwick College 64 def. Rowville SC #2 45

A major focus for the group throughout the day was at the defensive end. In the final two games especially, the boys were all on the same page, bringing consistent effort, pressure and intensity defensively. It was a real team performance, with everyone buying into their role and working for each other.

Offensively, the contributions were spread across the group. Logan Stockx led the way with games of 15, 19 and 14 points, while Stevan Tasic had games of 15 and 16 points. Oliver van den Brink also had a strong day, including 13 points against Maribyrnong and another 13 in the Final Four win. Dilan Turkan contributed 10 points against Marcellin.

The boys saved one of their best team performances for the Final Four, defeating Caulfield Grammar 78–34 to punch their ticket to the Grand Final.

A great day out at Pakenham Stadium for our Year 7 cohort competing in the SSV Division Tournament.

Congratulations to our Girls 1 and Boys 1 teams who both advanced through to the next round.

Across the day, all of our teams played exceptionally well and it was great to see the students implementing the offences and concepts they have been learning throughout the year in a competitive environment.

A big well done also to our Year 9 Basketball Academy students who took on the responsibility of refereeing and scoring throughout the day. This was a great opportunity for them to put into practice what they have been learning during their theory unit back at school and experience officiating in a tournament environment.

Well done to all of our student athletes on the way they competed, officiated and represented Berwick College throughout the day.

We look forward to seeing our Girls 1 and Boys 1 teams in action in the next round!

COURTSIDE HOOP CITY

A select group of our Year 7 and Year 9 Basketball Academy students had a great opportunity to head out to COURTSIDE Melbourne in Port Melbourne.

The group got to experience everything Courtside has to offer, with some of our students hitting the court for games against a touring group from Hong Kong, while others checked out the retail outlets and put up plenty of shots in the shooting bays.

It was a great experience for our students to compete against some international opposition and enjoy a different basketball environment away from school.

A massive thank you to Jordan Lawley and chrismoore_____ at Courtside for organising the day and hosting our students.

We had a fantastic time and can’t wait to get back there again!

Congratulations to Berwick College Basketball Academy Coach Mr. Chris Pentland on an outstanding week coaching the School Sport Victoria U16 Boys team at the Australian Championships in Melbourne.

Chris, alongside Year 10 student Oliver van den Brink, helped guide Victoria to a Silver Medal, once again showing why Victoria is one of the toughest teams in the country. Despite a hard-fought Grand Final, Victoria narrowly went down to Queensland 67-62 to finish an impressive tournament.

A fantastic achievement for both Chris and Olli, and another great example of the high-level basketball pathways within our Academy.

Congratulations, Chris and Olli!

A big couple of days for our Intermediate and Senior Basketball Academy teams at the Champions Cup Qualifiers.

On Wednesday, our Intermediate teams were in action. Congratulations to our Intermediate Boys, who have qualified for the Elite 8 later this term. Our Intermediate Girls put together a strong campaign before going down to a well-drilled Victory Christian College (Bendigo) outfit in the crossover final.

Today it was our Senior teams’ turn, with both our Senior Boys and Senior Girls booking their place in the Elite 8 after an outstanding day of basketball.

A fantastic effort from all of our players who represented Berwick College across both days. We’re looking forward to seeing all three qualifying teams back in action in the next round.

Congratulations to Alannah Gillespie on being named the Casey Cavaliers Victorian Youth Championship Women’s Most Valuable Player for the 2026 season.

Not only is Lani one of the competition’s standout players, but she is also one of our external coaches here at Berwick College, making this achievement even more special for our Basketball Academy community.

Lani capped off an outstanding final Youth League campaign, averaging 12.7 points, 3.0 rebounds, 2.2 assists and 1.6 steals per game. A well-deserved reward for the consistency, leadership and hard work she has shown all season.

A huge congratulations also to 2025 Berwick College graduate Kendra Rivet, who was recognised as the team’s Defensive Player of the Year. Kendra’s effort, intensity and commitment at the defensive end made her one of the competition’s toughest matchups all season.

Congratulations Lani and Kendra on two fantastic individual achievements. We’re incredibly proud to have you both representing Berwick College and can’t wait to see what comes next.
