We’ve all heard enough motivation to last a lifetime, and at some point, it just becomes noise.

But deep down, we already know the truth.
When we stay active, focused, and think positively… life tends to move in a better direction. When we sit in negativity, everything feels heavier.

Now even science is catching up to what we’ve always known.
So maybe it’s not about more motivation, just a decision to show up better today.

There is a strong connection between sleep and weight loss.

Although there is still more research to be done, several links have been discovered between successful weight loss and good quality sleep.

✨Increased appetite - a lack of sleep can affect the regulation of ghrelin and leptin, the two hormones that control whether you feel hungry or full. Therefore, having a poor night's sleep can make you hungrier the next day.

✨Metabolism - poor sleep can also lead to metabolic dysregulation. Our bodies have lower metabolic rates and brain temperature during certain stages of sleep that provide the opportunity to deal with the damage done during the metabolically active hours (when we are awake). Good quality sleep can make your metabolism more effective in general.

An average adult needs 7-9h of sleep to ensure they are rested and ready to go for the next day. While the length of sleep is the key, the quality is equally important.

It's a good idea to create a nighttime routine that gets your body ready for rest and will ensure you get the maximum out of the night.

A nighttime routine can include:

✨Avoiding screentime before bed
✨Dimming the lights
✨Skincare routine
✨Sauna
✨Herbal tea
✨Reading a book

It's good to start small and include some of the things listed above every night. That way, your body starts recognizing the routine and will start preparing itself for sleep💤

You have probably heard that managing your sodium intake is important.
Let's look at how salt affects our health and diet.

What is sodium?

Sodium is a mineral and one of the elements that combine a table salt. That is the regular salt we use in different types of cooking as well as preserving foods. It is also highly used in various processed foods like chips, bread, soups, and canned goods.

Sodium is essential for the body. Unfortunately, we tend to consume way more than our body needs.

So how much do we need? The dietary guidelines recommend having less than 2300mg sodium per day which is about one teaspoon of salt.

Consuming too much sodium will accumulate in the blood, which then draws the water from the cells to the blood. This raises the blood pressure and puts extra pressure on arteries and veins, which will increase the risk of cardiovascular disease.

Here are some actions you can take to control your daily sodium intake:

▸Always read nutrition labels - check for the sodium content and try to choose foods that have as little added salt as possible. Some canned foods are even salt-free.

▸Cook your meals as often as possible - then you can control how much salt you add and possibly reduce your intake.

▸Avoid processed foods - this will give you more benefits than just lowering your sodium intake. Try to always opt for fresh and whole foods whenever possible.

💤This week we are talking about sleep trackers and how they work.

💤If you have any sort of fitness tracker, there's a good chance that it also has a sleep tracking option available.

💤So why is that good?

💤Sleep tracking itself obviously won't change your sleep quality.
What it does though, is it gives you an insight of the patterns you go through during your sleep.
You can find out in what areas you are lacking and therefore improve them.

💤It also gives you a chance to test and try what evening rituals will help you to get a better sleep.

💤Tracking your sleep is like tracking anything. It's hard to improve something if you don't have enough data on it.

Have you been tracking your sleep?😴🧐

Are you getting enough fiber in your diet? Fiber is an essential nutrient that offers a range of health benefits, including:

🌾Improved digestion: Fiber helps to keep the digestive system running smoothly, reducing the risk of constipation and promoting regularity.

🌾Lowered cholesterol levels: Soluble fiber can help to lower cholesterol levels, reducing the risk of heart disease and stroke.

🌾Better blood sugar control: Fiber slows down the absorption of sugar in the bloodstream, helping to regulate blood sugar levels and reduce the risk of diabetes.

🌾Reduced inflammation: Fiber has been shown to reduce inflammation in the body, which is a risk factor for a range of chronic diseases.

🌾Weight management: High-fiber foods can help you feel fuller for longer, reducing the likelihood of overeating or unhealthy snacking.

Some great sources of fiber include fruits, vegetables, whole grains, nuts, and seeds. Try to aim for at least 25 grams of fiber per day for optimal health benefits.

So if you're looking to boost your health, make sure to add more fiber-rich foods to your diet. Your body (and your gut) will thank you! 🥦🍓

Are you struggling to fit exercise into your busy schedule? Here are 5 ways to make it happen:

👏Prioritize your workouts: Treat your exercise routine like any other important appointment, and schedule it into your calendar each week. Make it non-negotiable, and stick to it as best you can.

👏Break it up: You don't have to do a full workout all at once. Instead, break up your exercise into smaller chunks throughout the day. For example, try doing 10 minutes of yoga in the morning, a 15-minute walk during your lunch break, and a 20-minute strength training session in the evening.

👏Get up earlier: Consider waking up earlier than usual to fit in your workout before the day gets too busy. This can be a great way to start the day off on a positive note and ensure that exercise is a consistent part of your routine.

👏Incorporate exercise into your daily routine: Look for opportunities to be active throughout the day, such as taking the stairs instead of the elevator, parking further away from your destination, or doing squats while brushing your teeth.

👏Try online workouts: With a plethora of online workout videos available, it's easier than ever to fit in a quick workout from the comfort of your own home. Try streaming a yoga or fitness class during your lunch break or after work.

Remember, even a small amount of exercise is better than none at all. By finding creative ways to fit in physical activity, you can make fitness a priority in your busy life. 💪🏋️
