I’m all about creating an effortlessly energised life you love
But I recognise that doesn’t mean it’s always rainbows 🌈 and sunshine ☀️
Sometimes it can be a bit uncomfortable and sometimes it does require stepping out of your comfort zone
My run today was a perfect example
Didn’t feel like it
My legs felt like lead weights
I struggled
But afterwards it felt good
It will help me sleep better tonight
And ultimately my running habit is becoming another one of those things I simply just do without thinking too much about it
Yes, it’s messy and definitely not perfect but ithid approach is working for me

Mix of Yayoi Kusama art and Dolly Parton music - as two very different but talented women have passed away
I grew up listening to Dolly Parton - country upbringing necessity 😊
And, I totally love Yayoi Kusama’s art - my very favourite was the flower installation at the NGV some years ago - especially the bath and toilet 😊🛁🚽
I also got to see one of her exhibitions in New York and another back at the NGV last year
Art like this makes me smile and happy 😊
Music and art are definitely energy givers for me
I think we sometimes forget that simple things like this can have a powerful effect on our mood and energy levels

For decades, I thought I was focused on health but if if have to be totally honest I also wanted to be smaller.
Even as a personal trainer, I spent years focusing my own nutrition and exercise managing weight, usually trying to lose that same last 5kg.
Sometimes I lost it.
Then eventually, my weight would settle back around the same place and I’d feel like I needed to start again.
It took a lot of effort, a lot of headspace and, if I’m truthful, it wasn’t a lot of fun.
At 57, I now look at things very differently.
These days, I focus my attention on my energy levels, strength, health and how I actually feel.
I still care about what I eat.
I still exercise.
I still want to feel good in my body.
But I’m no longer measuring my success by whether I can make myself 5kg smaller.
And unsurprisingly, I feel so much healthier and happier living this way.
I may never lose that last 5kg again.
But I’m creating something that matters much more to me now: an effortlessly energised life I love.
A life that that feels enjoyable, easy, effective and efficient.
And mostly, it just feels really good.
That’s also what I want for the women over 50 I work with.

For years, many of us have invested decades into our careers, our families, our homes, our finances and the people we care about.
But after 50, I think the most important asset we can invest in is our energy levels.
Energy levels can change for many reasons after 50.
Hormonal changes, disrupted sleep, stress, the way we eat, how we move, how well we recover and the sheer amount we carry in our everyday lives can all make a difference.
Sometimes the things that worked for us in our 30s and 40s simply aren’t helpful now.
That can be frustrating, especially when you feel like you’re doing all the right things and still don’t feel energised.
But low energy doesn’t have to be something we simply accept.
When we start to understand what may be zapping our energy levels, do more of the things that help us feel more energised, and make simple changes across sleep, movement, nutrition and mindfulness, things can start to improve.
And when we feel more energised, we have more capacity to work, travel, connect, explore, move and enjoy the life we want to live.
For me, I now consider ENERGY to be my greatest asset.
How about you?

August mini adventure
A fabulous few days in Sydney
I combined attending the barefoot expo with a couple of days working and enjoying the city
Booked the cheapest flight and cheapest ok looking tiny studio Airbnb - which ended up being a perfect choice
I loved the location in Surry Hills and weirdly I also enjoyed being so close to loads of other apartments - ie so close I could see people living their lives
I got lots of work done (amazing how much more time I had without the usual home stuff I do…), lots of exercise including mini workouts, my morning flow, loads of walking and even an early evening swim
I ate well - took my own oats for breaky, smashed avocados for lunch, fishbowl for dinner
And of course my daily matcha
Even managed a little shopping
Also loved meeting up with friends at the barefoot expo and attending a couple of movement sessions
I find it amazing how just a few days away alone can be so refreshing and energising
For now my monthly mini adventures are here to stay 😊

There is so much advice about what we should be doing for our health after 50.
And yes, research and recommendations can be incredibly useful. I certainly use them in my own life and in my work.
But they are only part of the picture.
By the time we reach our 50s, we also have decades of experience, knowledge and wisdom about ourselves.
We know our bodies.
We know our lives.
We often know what hasn’t worked.
And we get to use all of that information to decide what works for us now.
I think there can be a lot of freedom in letting go of the pressure to do things the “right” way and instead creating your own way.
One that helps you feel healthy, energised and able to enjoy the life you’re living.
You make the ‘rules’ now.
One thing I hear from women over 50 again and again is that they feel like they’re somehow doing things wrong.
That there’s a right way to eat.
A right way to exercise.
A right way to look after yourself.
A right way to age.
And when we can’t keep up with all those rules, it can leave us feeling guilty, frustrated and like we should be trying harder.
But by the time we reach our 50s, we’ve also gathered decades of knowledge, wisdom and experience.
We know ourselves pretty well.
We often know what doesn’t work for us. The next step is getting curious about what does.
There may be evidence and guidelines that can help us make informed choices, but we still get to decide how we apply them to our own body, our own life and our own energy.
I think there’s something incredibly freeing about that.
We get to make our own rules now.
And when we take away some of that pressure, it becomes much easier to create a healthy, energised life that actually feels good to live.
What’s one health “rule” you’ve realised doesn’t work for you anymore?
