Senior Men’s State League News

Round 15 tonight.

Although we are state league news, we think tonight’s Northcote City FC Vs Melbourne Knights FC deserves some focus as it’s 1 v 2 in VPL 1.

When the last time these two teams met, Knights comfortably won 3-0 at home.

Can Northcote stay top, as we tune into Peter Kotsiris “Kotsys Corner” which has a spring in its step this campaign, and with good reason as Northcote are flying and looking to gain automatic promotion to back where they belong or will Mick Calandrella continue to deliver the results for the Knights and resurrect the fortunes of a club that were on its knees last campaign.

Knox City Football Club

I was incredibly sorry to hear this morning of the passing of George Bouios.

He was a remarkable person, who left an unforgettable mark on the entire Knox City FC community, and my family.

To go through two, double lung transplants, cancer and endure all that comes with it, and still lace up his boots to play football. All the while maintaining a humble, charming zest for life is nothing short of heroic. He clearly refused to let his circumstances define him, choosing instead to live fully and inspire everyone around him.

A Knox City FC life member and a true friend like George is a massive hit to a club, but the legacy of resilience and warmth he left behind will undoubtedly stick around for a very long time.

FAWKNER SC — OFFICIAL CLUB STATEMENT

12 June 2026

Fawkner Soccer Club is aware of recent public commentary and speculation about our Senior Men's program. We're issuing this statement to set the record straight.

The Senior Men's program has not folded. The team continues in season 2026, currently sits top of State League 3 North West, and takes the field this Saturday 13 June against Dallas City — a match we're very much looking forward to.

In recent weeks the Club met with Senior Men's management and made a number of difficult decisions. These were not taken lightly.

Each was made to protect the stability, sustainability and long-term future of Fawkner SC — the job of any responsible committee.

To be clear:
- No player or official was asked to leave the Club.
- Every player who requested a clearance was granted one within a reasonable timeframe.
- The players and staff who have moved on did so of their own volition. We thank them sincerely for their contribution and wish them every success in the future.

We also thank Kevin Theuma for his efforts with the Senior Men and wish him all the best.

The Club won't be responding to anonymous claims point by point. Our focus is exactly where it should be — on our players, our members, our families, and the football in front of us.

To everyone who backs this club: thank you. Get down to the ground on Saturday and get behind the team.

We reach the half way point of the year with some interesting developments.

State 3 NW has been thrown wide open with 6 sides going to battle for promotion.

All the way down to 7th spot Epping City FC are 5 points off top.

With the going ons at Fawkner Soccer Club, this has opened the door for another team to gain promotion.

We have had multiple instances in the past couple of weeks with dissatisfaction amongst the community of certain clubs being able to bypass rules that have been set.

We received this from one of our members and won’t name clubs or situations but it’s causing angst across State Leagues and VPL.

“The integrity of our game is up to who’s discretion?

The word discretion in our rule book leaves cans of worms open and dissatisfaction amongst our community rules are either black or white.

Clubs who release players at our elite level due to disciplinary reasons are allowed to get immunity to sign and replenish their squads. Those same players are then allowed to sign for opposition clubs.

Whilst other teams with long term injuries are required to suffer or dip into underage teams to make up the numbers.

Serious problems with the administration programs set in place also bring things to the fore. It’s halfway through the season and we still haven’t got it right.

You set the standards and the rules then move the goalposts when things get hard I guess that’s up to your discretion football Victoria”
