🔻🔻🔻GET ON BOARD for our SPRING 2026 “CODE OFFER”.
See below 🔻🔻🔻
WHO has been looking at their very first SUP BOARD, ready to hit the water this Spring and paddle confidently into our Aussie Summer 2027?
Diagrams 1-4 show you a simple way to practice rising to your feet (given the right conditions).
Try practising these 4 steps on solid ground first. Better still remove the fin from your board, place the board on even ground and practice this before getting on the water.
Of coarse it’s not the same feeling as moving water underneath your board, but you will be able to determine if you are able to move from your knees and hands to pushing yourself up with paddle in hand. Keep on practising slowly at first!
Keen to start off your SUP adventure with a qualified SUP Instructor instead?
Our SUP lessons are designed to move at your pace.
We are beside you the whole lesson, guiding you every step of the way. Making sure you are learning the correct technique, but also having heaps of FUN!

Funny SUP story!!
Sitting on the beach in Italy in July, I spotted a couple of guys unpacking their NEW inflatable SUP!
Once they hit the water, they were having a lot of trouble staying on! Clearly their first time on a SUP!
As there weren’t any SUP hire business’s about, I thought I might see if they would like some tips in exchange for a quick paddle.
They offered me a paddle first, so off I went, thinking I would be back in no time!
Well…. When I finally returned, the look of sheer relief on their faces was priceless!
They clearly thought I’d taken off with their brand new SUP and paddled into the wild blue yonder. 🤭
We had a good laugh about it and after a few tips and encouragement, I had them both up on their feet paddling.
Nothing like meeting the locals 😜

WINTER SUP CLOTHING TIPS!
AND
What’s ahead for our
2026/2027 SUP LESSONS!
❄️With winter approaching, its a great time of year to add a few layers to your SUP kit…
❄️While instructing SUP lessons, we often get asked…
“What type of clothing is appropriate to wear in WINTER while STANDUP PADDLE BOARDING in 📍Melbourne Victoria Australia.
❄️ Kitting up in the right gear always makes a SUP experience much more enjoyable, especially in winter!
❄️So here are a few suggestions on what to wear while STANDUP PADDLE BOARDING during the winter months in📍Melbourne Victoria Australia 🇦🇺.
❄️While the feet and legs normally only need one piece of clothing, the top half of the body loves a bit of layering. Long sleeve, light weight, wind and water resistance.
❄️It helps to be able to peel off the layers, wrapping the long sleeves around your waist as your body begins to warm up with movement.
❄️TIP:
You can’t go past purchasing quality clothing while on the water. You definitely don’t want clothing that absorbs water which in turn can weigh you down! 💦
It needs to be water resistant and fast drying!
❄️Starting at the….
1. FEET: 👣
Booties.
A pair that cover your ankles are ideal.
2. LEGS: 🦵
Leggings that are fleece lined and water resistant are ideal or depending on the time of day you are paddling and the wind temperature, wearing regular sports leggings can still work.
3. UPPER BODY:🎽
Here is where you can layer up.
*Short sleeve thermal vest.
*Long sleeve thermal rash vest.
*Long sleeve, light weight wind jacket or spray jacket.
4. HANDS:🧤🧤
Gloves - Water resistant.
Thick enough to keep your hands warm, but thin enough so you can still feel your paddle.
5.HEAD: 🧢
Beanie/cap.
6. WETSUIT: 💦💧🌊
If you find yourself taking a dip often, then a wetsuit can come in very handy! But if you are a competent paddler, the body can get warm/hot very quickly in a wetsuit.
If you have never paddled in a wetsuit over winter, try going for a short fast paddle in one and see how your body feels. If you feel you are starting to sweat or overheat, try just a wetsuit top and a pair of leggings instead.
7. HI VISUAL:🎽
Keep everything as HI VIS as you can. You want to be seen on the water at all times by others.
8. POST PADDLE.🔥
If you are a good distance from home, it’s always nice to peel off your SUP gear and slide your body into some warm comfortable clothing to drive home in.
🔥Nothing beats a pair of warm trackie pants after a paddle, along with a super comfortable hoodie and/or jacket.
🔥Having a flask of WARM water to pour over your feet after your paddle certainly warms them up quickly for the drive home!
If you own a pair of UGG boots, these are like GOLD to slide your feet into.
👍Hoping this has given you some ideas/tips on what to wear during the winter months while paddling in 📍Melbourne Victoria Australia! 🇦🇺
✅If you have any further tips we haven’t mentioned feel free to share them in the comments.
✅ Its all about supporting one another while on the water 👍
‼️NOTE: 👍👍

We are taking a break…🌊
What a blast we’ve had with our SUP lessons throughout our 2025/2026 season! 🌊
We normally run our SUP lessons right through winter, but this year we’ll be taking a 3-month break, starting today through to the end of July. We’ll be back refreshed and ready to kick off our 2026/2027 SUP season in mid-August.
A big thank you to everyone who joined our SUP lessons, including all the members of the SUP Melbourne Club who took part in our recent SUP Skill Sessions—your energy and support made it such a fantastic season!
Don’t stop paddling over winter—Melbourne can still put on some amazing sunny days with calm winds. It’s all about layering up and wearing the right gear.
Stay tuned for our next post, where we’ll share detailed tips on what to wear while paddling during winter if you’re unsure.
Happy paddling, and we hope to see you out on the water!
