First cab off the rank... three in three. π©π
Need a little cricket fix before pre-season?
We've got you covered.
Over the next few weeks, we will be dusting off a few of our favourite moments out of the archives from seasons gone by. π
Pre season kicks off on Wednesday nights at Century Cricket Centre, Blackburn on 5 August.
This year we've managed to upgrade from the two nets we had last year to THREE full nets plus a bowling machine, which according to our calculations means 50% less standing around and an alarming increase in opportunities to nick one behind. We'll also be back at East Burwood Reserve from 16 August for fitness, team building and fielding specific sessions before shifting back to East Burwood full time at the end of September.

This October we'll unveil our brand new state of the art five lane training facility featuring retractable netting and lighting, giving our players access to some of the best training facilities in community cricket. Add in our upcoming $10 million pavilion redevelopment and we're starting to run out of reasons not to be excited.
Now, for those who aren't already calling EBCC home...
Look, we're obviously biased... but we'd be pretty curious if we were on the outside looking in too.

ππ€ WE'RE KEEPING THE KID.π²π
When Tom Miller arrived at the Woods ahead of the 2024/25 season, he wasn't just moving clubs, he was looking for a cricketing home.
Fresh off earning a cricket scholarship at a Victorian private school, Tommy made the move down from Merimbulla NSW. As luck would have it, a handful of familiar faces from his hometown had already found their way to East Burwood, making the Woods the perfect place to continue the next chapter of his cricket.
From the moment he walked through the doors, he brought an infectious energy. His pace, enthusiasm and youthful exuberance added another layer to the exciting young group we were building.
Whether it was steaming in with the new ball, charging in for another spell when the game was on the line or taking apart attacks with fearless strokeplay, he played with the sort of confidence that usually takes years to earn.
And somehow... he was only 18.
Last season became Tommy's coming-of-age year.
He finished with 508 runs at 39.08, including his maiden 1st XI century, while also claiming 22 wickets at just 21.41. Most players would happily take either of those seasons. Tommy somehow managed both. ππ
But numbers only tell half the story.
One of the moments that summed Tommy up came at Morton Park, where he brought up his maiden 1st XI hundred in the only way he knows how... by launching a flat-batted six over long-on to move from 94 to 100. Whether it was bravery, adrenaline or simply not knowing any better, we're still not entirely sure. π
Then there was Mitcham.
After being rolled for just 78 in the first innings and sent back in following Mitcham's declaration of 7-79d, things looked grim. Steve challenged the group to respond.
Tommy answered first.
Opening the batting, he blasted 76 from just 69 balls, completely changing the mood of the game. His intent sparked belief through the whole side as the Woods piled on quick runs, declared and eventually completed one of the club's great reverse outright victories.
He was the first domino to fall.
The first bloke who decided we weren't done yet.
Moments like that are why Tommy has become such an important piece of this group. His willingness to take the game on gives us something every side needs; someone prepared to grab the contest by the scruff of the neck when everyone else is waiting.
With another pre-season under his belt and plenty of cricket still ahead of him, we're convinced the best chapters of Tommy's story are still to come.
We're absolutely wrapped to have Tom Miller back in the black and gold for 2026/27. ππ€
CARN THE WOODS!! π²π

ππ€ Quietly one of the most important players at the Woodsβ¦ and another re-signing weβre absolutely wrapped about. πͺ΅π
RAM 'Jr' (Ramkishore Ramkumar) is locked in for the 2026/27 season. ππ₯
2025-26 Season Stats:
432 runs at 28.8 π
16 wickets with a best of 4/25 π―
1st XI Vice-captain duties + captaining the side for a large chunk of the season while Steve was sidelined.π§
Ohβ¦ and casually sneaking under the radar to win another club champion award. πΆπ
Ram is the definition of reliability. Whether it is steadying an innings, breaking a partnership with the ball or leading the side when needed, he just finds a way to impact games. Every club needs players they can trust when things get toughβ¦ and Ram has been that bloke for us for a while now. ππ€
And beyond the runs, wickets and leadership, Ram has become a massive part of the fabric of the Woods. Alongside his dad, he was one of the driving forces behind getting our winter cricket program off the ground in its very first season, captaining the side then and continuing to do so again this year. βοΈπ
With the Ramkumar family having been part of the club for well over a decade, seeing Ram Jr grow into such an important figure around the group has been pretty special for everyone involved. π²
He might not always be the loudest name in the roomβ¦ but year after year he just keeps producing. And weβre very happy heβll be doing it in black and gold again this summer. ππ₯

ππ€ The seasons change. Adam Daley stays. πͺ΅π
ADAM DALEY is confirmed for the 2026/27 season, bringing back one of the most important and respected figures at the Woods.
It is hard to talk about the modern EBCC without talking about Adam. Through some of the clubβs darkest days and some of its very best moments, Adam has been there the whole way.
A former captain-coach, a Ray McIntosh Shield winner in 2020/21 π and a genuine pillar of the 1st XI for many years now, Daley is stitched into the DNA of this club. πͺ‘π²
On the field, most clubs already know exactly what he is capable of.
An absolute weapon with the ball π―, more than capable of producing massive hundreds with the bat π₯π― and the sort of cricketer every captain wants in their side because of the flexibility, experience and composure he brings.
While last season was unfortunately interrupted by injury, Adam still showed plenty of glimpses of his class throughout the year.
And from all reportsβ¦ he has been putting in the work over the off-season and is looking pretty menacing heading into 2026/27. ππ³
As we continue building a side capable of having a real crack at the shield this season, having someone like Adam locked in is absolutely crutial. ππ€

π FIRST THINGS FIRST: STEVE IS BACK. ππ€π€πͺ΅π₯
The committee has kept itself busy this off-season, doing a bit of shopping around π and locking in plenty of exciting new signings and re-signings that we cannot wait to share. But to kick things off, there was only one place to start: the man at the helm. π§
And there was never any doubt about who we wanted leading the charge.
Weβre absolutely wrapped to announce that STEVE ALDERTON has re-signed as our 1st XI CAPTAIN and CLUB HEAD COACH for the 2026/27 season. ππ₯πͺ΅
And if anyone needed a reminder of what he brings with the bat, last season provided it pretty quickly. π
Steve came out and casually peeled off back-to-back hundreds to start the season with scores of 139 and 133 π³π―π―
Despite an injury-interrupted year, he still piled on 428 runs at an average of 47.56 because apparently making runs is easy. π
This may be mildly terrifying for opposition bowlers considering the talent weβve added around him this off-season tooβ¦ π
But what makes Steve so important to this club goes well beyond the runs.
In one season, Steve has become a genuinely loved figure across the playing group and wider club community, and it is easy to see why. Anyone around the Woods knows how fiercely passionate he is about this group, this club and where weβre heading. From the 1st XI right through to the lower grades, Steve genuinely cares about building something people want to be part of. πͺ΅
That mix of performance, leadership and genuine care for the club is exactly why Steve is the man we want steering the ship again. π’
And the scary part? We are only getting started.
We have plenty more signings and re-signings to announce, and we are absolutely bursting at the seams to share them. πͺ‘π

π¨ THE WOODS MIGHT HAVE A PROBLEM. π¨
The club has become dangerously easy to get excited about.
After pulling some HUGE numbers last year, the Woods are gearing up for an even bigger 2026/27 season. We've got our sights set on five senior teams, a veterans side, multiple T20 squads, a growing junior program and one of the most exciting periods in the club's history. πͺ΅ππ€

A few snaps from todayβs winter cricket game. πβοΈ
Thereβs something strangely wholesome about winter cricket. An oxymoron of cold hands, muddy whites, mismatching sleeves and big grins. Somehow, in all its imperfection, it feels like cricket stripped back to a purer form. Itβs no Lordβs Test match and it doesnβt try to be.
Itβs a little colder, a little messier and held together by good humour more than anything else. But it has opened the door to new teammates, and new friendships that make getting through the work week a little easier. And maybe thatβs the beauty of it. The feeling that come the weekend, youβll be guaranteed an easy laugh and the company of a few people who make winter feel a lot warmer than winters gone by. πͺ΅ππ€ π€
