As part of our Kumo sneaker launch, About The Energy, we sat down with Aoife Kavanagh, an Irish-born, Melbourne-based yoga teacher to talk about her connection with Mother Earth, community and following the breadcrumbs of life.

“Yoga has this beautiful ripple effect: you think it’s just a 60-minute class, but you take that into traffic, into how you move around the world and interact with people. It’s super important. Everyone needs to do it.
Breath is the easiest way to access the depth of presence. Even now if I asked you ’can you hear your breath? Can you feel your breath?’ just hurls you into your body’s experience of now.”

Grounded in Kumo Earth.

We’re getting into the flow state with Aoife Kavanagh: an Irish-born, Melbourne-based yoga teacher. Aoife usually teaches at Good Vibes Studio in Collingwood, but today, we’re in nature - a place that feels like home to her.

The morning is quiet, cold and misty amongst the ferns in the Royal Botanic Gardens. It’s chilly enough to see your breath and with the sounds of chatty birds, the rushing stream and occasional breeze, it feels like Mother Earth is breathing back.

We’re in the city but you wouldn’t know it under a cathedral of green in Melbourne’s urban oasis. Matching the environment perfectly, Aoife wears Kumo Earth on her feet, the shoe inspired by the quiet, grounding energy of nature itself.

Stooped on some rocks, we talk about her connection with Mother Earth, community and following the breadcrumbs of life.

It’s an overcast Tuesday afternoon in Fitzroy, yet the frequency on Gertrude St is buzzing as always.

Near the intersection of Smith & Gertrude, a rainbow brick road guides us to the azure city where the Wizard of Funk awaits. It’s Northside Records, painted top to tail in bright blue. A jazzy flute solo spills from the doorway and we’re absorbed into the aether.

Owner & founder Chris Gill is behind the counter chatting to customers, with his halo of hair, bright red tracksuit, community radio t-shirt and giant smile - a visual testament to his fun & funky nature.

We sat down with Chris to talk all things music, community and 24 years of funky soul on Gertrude St.

Aether is the space between things: a frequency that connects sound to emotion, emotion to memory. When a song teleports you to another world; the unseen medium that carries vibration, voice and rhythm.
