Altra Athlete Spotlight - Mat Grills
From completing 10x 50km runs and 40x marathons in 50 consecutive days! To doing the Leadville 100miler in 2019, winning the inaugural Buffalo Grand Slam and of course making plenty of lifelong memories running with his mates such as when they finished Coast to Kosci in a “biblical electrical storm.”
Mat shares his thoughts on the importance of taking your time and enjoying this lifelong process. 🙌
Favourite Shoe? 👟
“Always the Lone Peak. I have run 10’s of thousands of k’s in many different iterations, I think I may have even had as early as the Lone Peak 2’s? Just an all round immense shoe for all terrains.”
Best tip for new runners? 👀
“BE PATIENT! Build slowly, take your time...running isn’t going anywhere! Beyond everything, be consistent. Consistency is key to success in anything in life, particularly running! There are no hacks. There are no shortcuts.”
Favourite Fuel? 🍩
• Post run meal - “A vegan burger is always good....smoothie bowl....ramen?”
• Aid station snack - “The basics. Watermelon, potato chips, coke later in a race. I was bonking hard in a 100miler once and this aid station had some home made peanut brittle....I took a bag of it and that stuff saved my race! So so good!”

“Stop thinking about pace and start listening to your body, enjoy the run. Everyone gets caught up on pace and constantly looking at their watch. But once you get out there into nature, slow down and take in what your body is allowing you to do and everything will fall into place, and you’ll truly find the beauty of what running is.”

On Sunday Mick Marshall broke the world record for the fastest Half Marathon on crutches!
He did it in his home town at the and smashed the record by 10 minutes. 🏆
