Exercise physiology can help reduce the burden on Australia’s healthcare system.

The Canberra Times covered the launch of our new Deloitte report at Parliament House today.

The article highlights how exercise physiologists have helped avoid more than 600,000 hospital admissions and freed up more than 400,000 hospital bed days.

Katie Lyndon, ESSA CEO and Accredited Exercise Physiologist, is featured in the article saying, ''Knowing what we know now, it makes no sense that Australians living with chronic disease, disability, injury and mental health conditions should have to pay an additional 10 per cent for this essential health care," she said.

The article also featured the voices of people with lived experience of falls who attended the launch to advocate for the removal of GST from exercise physiology.

Peter Lawson, who ended up in hospital after a fall, told the Canberra Times, “I was put in a wheelchair and it was an exercise physiologist who got me out of it.”

We farewelled Emma last week to new career opportunities ! Here are some pics of her last week at PXP!

Emma has been an integral part of the PXP furniture for 6 years we are so grateful to have been part of her early Exercise Physiology career and proud of the clinician she has become. We cannot wait to see what she does next!

Emma started working with Kyle and Beth in 2019 as she was studying her Masters of Exercise Physiology and was hired as our Exercise Scientist and administrator. She then completed her postgraduate placement with us and was promoted to Exercise Physiologist on her graduation.
Since then Emma has demonstrated so much initiative in her own growth as an Exercise Physiologist, Emma has natural empathy and kindness with the applied science knowledge to go with it.
If you were able to work with Emma you would have experienced this! This is what being an Exercise Physiologist is all about!
Emma has landed an amazing opportunity at Northern Health and we can’t wait to hear what impact has assisting patients there!

Congratulations Emma! We will miss you! Keep in touch!❤️🤸🤗🌸🫶🏻

Just in time before she finished up at PXP Emma took our staff through some invaluable gymnastics training!

Before PXP, Emma used to teach gymnastics to kids from 18months to 16 years olds!
This was a great follow up to our review of core/trunk exercise prescription as it lead us into some fundamentals for basic gymnastics practice.

The second half of the session focussed the skill of learning how to fall safely!

Falling is inevitable at times, in gymnastics it is something that all gymnasts will experience when trying new skills and so they are trained how to fall!

For the general population this skill could be a great asset for the prevention but also reducing the risk of injuries with a fall!

We see many people with osteoporosis or those who have fallen or who are afraid to fall and so stop much of the activities they love. It was great to learn these new skills to help our clients practice and be confident again.

In the session we covered teaching safe falling technique:
• Load transference: distributing force throughout the body rather than absorbing it through one area
• Reducing the freeze response: building confidence and body awareness so the nervous system doesn’t panic on the way down
• Controlled descent: slowing the fall and managing impact before it happens
• Safe landing mechanics: using the whole body (particularly the knees and hips) to absorb force effectively

If this is something you would like to practice let us know in your next session !
The last video is of one of our PXP clients giving the forward roll a go! Well done !

Thank you again Emma for showing us your gymnastics coaching skills we know this will come in handy with our programs at PXP! 🤸

We are back open today after a week being closed to fix our floors !
Our floors at PXP were in dire need for some TLC and although it is a tough decision to close our small business for a week it is imperative that we offer a safe space to exercise in!
We are super happy with the result !
Thanks to all who assisted with the pack up and pack down !!
