You're stepping into the shoes of a person - a life . When you treat it as such - you're no longer just doing the lines -
Melbourne Actor's Lab
Ongoing acting training for emerging and professional actors with Peter Kalos in Melbourne, Australia & online.
The Actors Lab is the only Melbourne training centre dedicated to delivering the traditional art in method acting (originated by Lee Strasberg and The Actors Studio).
Many actors / directors / casting agents say "just do nothing " so the actor "does nothing" and then that's what they see- nothing ! What they mean isn; still create the realities of the script but " don't add anything else !" Once you create the realities of the script, then you need to trust that those are enough ! Many don't so we start to perform !

You must learn to juggle your choices and keep them active during the scene - you don't just do them once and then forget about them .

In the mid 90's , they were shooting HEAT in downtown L,A. Barry Primus took me downtown, and we saw them film some of the shots . It was an amazing night - amazing memory.
I cannot wait to see this.

It's NOT about naming "interesting" choices - you're doing that to be noticed ! That's not what the character is about - there's no "audience" for the character.
Talent alone doesn't cut it ! DeNiro is a hard worker - I've seen him work, he's not "talented" Pacino on the other hand - talent WITH skill - don't just depend on your "talent!l !
Once you make your "initial" choices that get you into the character - keep that clean somas@you explore other choices , if they don't work out you know where your starting position was .
