In a race defined by unpredictable weather and the first-ever MotoGP flag-to-flag bike changes, Marco Melandri expertly navigated the chaotic conditions of Phillip Island to take control in the closing stages.

After charging to the front on lap 16, Melandri pulled away from the field to claim victory by almost 10 seconds, finishing ahead of Australia’s Chris Vermeulen and Italy's Valentino Rossi.

The win was made even more iconic by Melandri’s celebratory powerslide through the final corner, a moment that remains one of the most famous victory celebrations ever seen at Phillip Island ✌️
