Kyakking along the meandering Dordogne river. The river course is one of my favourite metaphors for life’s journey. Sometimes there are rapids. Sometimes it’s hard work and at other times the water is super clear and, like here, full of joyous encounters. Just keep swimming, rowing, kyakking.

It’s only when it directly impacts us that we pay attention. Homes destroyed, crops and livestock gone. The French emergency services have done a brilliant job in evacuating the entire Cap Ferret peninsula. It is surreal to look across the Bassin to an area that is now deserted and to see ash and feathers on the shoreline.
Meanwhile, the city of Bordeaux is shrouded in smoke and people are on alert. So sad. 😞
We are leaving the area in the morning.
