So I went to meditation tonight and afterwards I asked a question about breathing of my teacher. There was a couple there too and first one and then the other started answering my question which was directed at the teacher. I thought it was the hight of rudeness and hubris. They continued to try to instruct me while we are all kneeling within a metre of the very calm teacher. I found it irritating of course I wasn’t interested in “their opinions “ I directed my question at the teacher who i trust. It occurred to me these people appear in the martial arts and aikido. People attempting to usurp the teaching role and showing false humility. This is poison. Trainees should avoid these people and do everything to curb any impulse to behave this way. False humility is fake, repulsive, (halts spiritual growth), when we are receiving lessons from those we trust we dont need interjections from those we dont. Worse some beginners don’t know who they should listen too. Dont be that guy!
False modesty can happen with sensei too. It is especially noticeable when they start affecting a quiet voice out of nowhere 😀

You don’t have to concentrate on being able to fight but if your abilities have no grounding in reality its not martial art it’s some other thing. Martial arts work because the capabilities of the warrior impart qualities on the trainee for daily life if there is no real martial art there then there are no benefits? Train with effective basics and put the focus you wish too on self defence and fighting. Some people need more some people need less it’s an individual thing but it must start from the basis of effectiveness
