Fun fact: Did you know that The Very Hungry Caterpillar popularised the term 'cocoon' instead of the technically correct term 'chrysalis'? A cocoon is the pupal stage of a moth, not a butterfly. About this, the author Eric Carle said: "For me, it would not sound right to say, 'Come out of your chrysalis.' And so poetry won over science!"

He also points out that caterpillars don't eat lollipops or ice cream either, so he's not sure why we should fixate on this particular scientific inaccuracy. Touché Eric!

This book is many childrens' first introduction to butterflies and life cycles. We cannot emphasise enough how essential stories are in shaping young minds. We LOVE books like The Very Hungry Caterpillar and all the other stories that instil a sense of curiosity and wonder about life on Earth.

If you're looking for some fun and interactive science learning programmes, look no further! Our butterfly and spiny leaf insect incursions are wonderful ways to kindle a love for learning about the natural world. During our incursions, kids get the chance to interact with these beautiful creatures and to really appreciate their biology up close. They learn about insect life cycles and morphology, as well as broader interactions in the ecosystem through our fun storytelling presentations, interactive games and craft activities, as well as real specimens for them to observe under a magnifying glass.

Did you know up to 1 in 3 stick insects lose a leg while moulting**? Their long thin legs are designed to mimic sticks and branches, but make them extra prone to moulting complications where their legs get stuck in their old skin. You might think these guys have gotten the short end of the stick in life... but our five-legged friends go on to live perfectly healthy stick insect lives, and can even regenerate their lost legs bit by bit with each moult!

Although we previously did not sell our five-legged bugs, we think our penta-pedal bugs deserve warm loving homes. So we're going to go out on a limb here...
