Last night at the Hillside dojo. Brown belts testing for Shodan in a month's time continue their growth as they practice their communication and leadership skills. Under supervision they take it in turns to take the whole class for introductory exercises including elements of katas along with stretching and strengthening work. Looks like a great Training Day coming up when 8 of our 1st kyu members test for promotion to Shodan level. Also one of our senior members, presently Sandan level is testing for promotion to Yondan. I am very proud of our group, for the dedication, growth and commitment to our Goju Ryu karate! Graeme, Shihan.

Students are be taught how to apply their skills fully should the need for personal self-defence arise.
A top night at the hombu dojo last night. Teenagers Noor and Ojas joined with Sanjeewa to pump up the numbers of visitors from our Hillside dojo. All three are working hard and putting in the time to take extra classes as they prepare for their Black Belt gradings in October. In both dojos our 1st kyu students are taking the instructor's role in handling the warmups and basic sections of our classes. The attached photo shows Noor very competently taking the class for basics.
After several weeks of hospital stays and operations I am really happy to be back in active karate classes. I am absolutely convinced that karate has saved my life, and look forward to continuing for many years with my dedicated and supportive yudansha and regular members!!
Last night at our Westmeadows dojo. As I rested on doctor's orders, Sensei Lincoln took over the class in his usual professional manner. The vid shows Asanka, 4th Dan, (L) practicing a wrist break technique from Saifa with Suraj 3rd Dan (R). We were also pleased to have Sean 2nd Dan join us in his return to class after a short break. Welcome back Sean, as a regular member of the hombu dojo!
Great night at Westmeadows dojo last night. Three visitors from Hillside dojo rocked up. Jagreet came as expected, and he was joined by Isha who brought Noor.
These exceptional young people give me a really warm glow for the future of our club. Jagreet and Noor received their official invitations to test for Shodan in October during the class. S1

Last night at the Hillside dojo we had a a good session taking a deep dive into Saifa kata. Most of the night was spent exploring some basic bunkai to give members an introduction to the rick layers of techniques hidden behind the template kata.@@

Training at the West Meadowss dojo Monday 27th April, with Graeme shihan and Lincoln sensei taking the class. New student Thusanth 15 years of age is a week off from his first grading in which he is to demonstrate Taikyoku Shodan kata. We had a terrific night of basics to sharpen our basics using kihon ido. It takes special seniors to lose their ego and react positivly to correction and skill improvment. Well done to you all. The stewardship of Ichikawa O'sensei's esoteric and demanding karate is now in good hands! Our seniors Asanka Silva and Suraj Fernando always show their dedication and growth in our karate.
This short video shows Thusanth preparing for his demonstration.
