Where did you react this week when you could have paused?
High performers are not the people who never get it wrong.
They’re the people who come back the fastest.
AND...
That shift matters in work, parenting, relationships, everything.

You can’t fix a pattern by only changing the outcome.
That’s why “I’ll just stop saying yes” works for 3 days... then you’re right back in it.
The issue is that most of us try to change the behaviour first.
But if you never catch the moment it starts, the pattern keeps running.

You do not have a decision problem. You have a three second problem.
Between what happens and what you do next, there is a gap.
Something lands. A message. A number. A comment. And your response is out before you chose it.
We call it personality. We call it being under pressure. It is neither. It is a gap nobody taught you to find.
PAUSE is not stopping. It is three seconds. Long enough to notice you are about to react.
CHOOSE is not deciding once and hoping.
RESET is not starting over. It is returning, which is a different thing entirely.
You don’t always “choose” to say yes.
A lot of the time, the pattern chooses for you.
BUT
The choice is owning that you had another option.
The reset is coming back faster when you get it wrong.
I used to think high performance meant pushing through everything.
Now I think it starts with catching the pattern before it catches you.

Bedtime at our house is not always calm.
The 3 younger kids all needing something at once, and I am the one they are asking - Mum, mum, mum, mum quite often even if there dad is standing right there.
There is a version of me that meets that well and a version that does not, and the difference between them is about three seconds.
Not patience. Not being a better person. Three seconds.
That is the whole episode. Pause. Choose. Reset. Small enough to use in the middle of it, which is the only reason it works.
I still get it wrong. But now I get it wrong less than I did.

It is almost never a new life. It is almost always one honest thing.
You don’t need a full life overhaul. You need one honest shift you can still do on your worst day.
Most of us keep calling it “not sticking to things” when the real problem is the plan was never survivable in the first place.
The big reset feels productive.
The tiny honest thing feels too simple.
But the tiny thing is what lasts:
a breath before you react
one boundary you finally say out loud
one pause before the automatic response
That’s the shift.
Not perfect. Just repeatable.
Pause. Choose. Reset.

As a leader you are not only influencing your team, the ones who are around you are watching you.
They are noticing what you do, how passionate you are, if you follow through on your word and how to navigate life.
Influence doesn't stop when work finishes, it is carried home as well.
The “small shift” you keep avoiding is probably the honest one.
You don’t need 10 perfect changes.
You need one better action.
You need more of you in the life you already have.
What’s the one honest thing you’ve been putting off?
