Course Report

Hello Members and Guests,

The lead into winter is always a crucial period for the golf course as our warm-season turf varieties begin to move into dormancy. During this transition, it is extremely important that the turf enters the cooler months as healthy and strong as possible to ensure we maintain quality playing conditions throughout winter.

Fortunately, the summer season provided some fantastic growing conditions. With no major flooding events and consistent warm weather, the course was able to thrive, and I think you will all agree that course conditions over the past 12 months have been some of the best we have seen in recent years. Having Mother Nature finally on our side has certainly allowed the maintenance team to present the golf course at a consistently high standard.

However, the recent autumn wet weather has presented some new challenges. Over the past month alone, we have received approximately 200mm of rainfall. While the course has held up exceptionally well due to the strong condition of our surfaces and turf health heading into the wetter period, we kindly ask all members and guests to assist us in protecting the course where possible.

We ask that cart traffic be kept off main play areas and that carts remain in the rough whenever practical. Small changes in traffic management during wet periods can make a significant difference in reducing wear and preserving turf quality through winter.

Our winter overseeding program on tees and selected fairways has now been completed, with germination progressing very well. This should provide excellent colour and presentation throughout the coming cooler months while also improving surface recovery and playability.

The extremely high volumes of play continue to place considerable wear pressure on greens and tees, particularly during these wetter conditions. To help manage this, we are currently trialling a two-hole rotation program on greens. This allows staff to move hole locations more efficiently each morning, helping spread wear patterns while also minimising disruption to play and improving presentation consistency.

Construction has also commenced on the new paddle ball courts and beer garden area. Unfortunately, recent rainfall has slowed progress during the early stages of the project, however we look forward to pushing ahead as conditions improve and delivering these exciting new facilities for members and guests to enjoy.

As always, thank you to all members and guests for your continued patience, support, and assistance in helping us maintain the golf course to a high standard.

Kind regards,

Luke Helm
Course Superintendent
