A bit of beach time during SUP Fit to make a few corrections and discuss how to enter the paddle vertically . Wow what a difference it made to our group at the end of the session 🥳.

It was back to basics at SUP-Fit today. Checking hand positioning on the paddle before our session and working on forward stroke, reach and feathering. We also discussed how important it is not to compare your progress with others - especially at novice level because laying down the foundations is crucial before trying to keep up with more experienced, faster paddlers. Realistically it takes around 2 seasons the get the foundations set and while you are doing that, you are getting fitter, stronger and more confident. It's WIN WIN WIN all round!🥳🥳🥳. Who doesn't love a road trip!

That feeling of driving out of the rat race with a rough plan but not really caring about the details! That's my kind of road trip. As long as I have my SUP, I'm happy. Exploring, meeting fury friends and creating special memories.

Meet Marie! Here's her SUP Story!

How long have you been paddling?

I started paddling on and off just over 15 years ago when I bought a couple of inflatable SUP boards as a family Christmas present. We'd paddle in the river, lakes and ocean, often taking them to use while camping. I only started paddling with SUP Tonic towards the end of last year.

Why did you start SUP?

Well, I’ve done most other things, so it only made sense that I try out SUP. I joined Sup Tonic though, after one day while I was out paddling and saw a lady with the most amazing skills on a board, that lady was Maree, and I wanted to learn how to do what she was doing. It took me some time to get to one of Maree’s sessions, and I quickly learnt that there is way more to SUP than I thought.

What were you hoping to gain and have you achieved this?

Initially, I joined to have people to paddle with and learn all those tricky maneuvers I saw Maree doing, but I quickly learnt that I need to work on EVERYTHING else first. Maree is ever so patient and great at breaking down steps to help me with my technique. In fact, the whole Supn Tonic crew are very helpful and just a great bunch of people.
So, yes, I have found my tribe to paddle with, and I am on my way to being a better paddler and I am happy with that for now.

Favourite SUP activity?

Oh, possibly the socialising 😉 but really, I enjoy everything about being out on the SUP and am especially liking that I am learning so much from all the drills we do at Sup Fit.
During summer we play Sup Ball which is a heap of crazy fun.
I haven’t been on one of the camps yet, but we have a couple coming up which I am very much looking forward to and know I am going to enjoy.

What’s next?

Lessons and more time on the water to practice. Oh, and a hard board!

I LOVE wheelies - just for FUN! We fall, get back up and do it again, and again!

In this video, I'm working on turning tightly around the buoy - and the video shows how far off I am, especially the first two. Timing is the key.
The main thing that holds people back doing pivot turns is the fear of falling and moving the feet. Remember, you have a SOFT landing and It's much safer than pulling a wheelie on the road right??

Falling is NOT failing! If I can do it, so can YOU!
