Kids don't get it.
Adults do.
I've been training for as long as I can remember. If I think hard enough, my earliest memories would involve martial arts.
If I had my way, I probably would have quit when I was a kid. My life goals would cycle between becoming a Planeteer and joining Captain Planet, to becoming the new red Power Ranger. And this proves the point.
Kids don't know what they don't know.
It's not their fault. They haven't lived as long as adults have. So why let them make important life decisions that will impact their future?
If this life as a Martial Arts instructor wasn't for me. If I had moved into some of my original plans of getting into business and marketing, staying as a school teacher - or perhaps becoming a Planeteer. I still wouldn't regret the time I spent on the mats. It was the best decision made for me. It moulded me into the person I am today.
I am forever grateful for that.
LEADERSHIP WEEK 🥋
From taking the centre stage and leading the group in drills, to leading whole class warm ups, to going against the instructors in Lunch Tag. Week 5 was action packed!
Well done to everyone for their efforts in Leadership Week.
MONDAY AND WEDNESDAY
MUAY THAI
Here's a breakdown of our Monday and Wednesday Technical Skills class. After the warm up the session is broken up into 3 components.
1️⃣ TECHNICAL SKILLS
This is the learning component where students are working on individual movements or sequences. There is opportunity to expand on these for the different levels of our students.
2️⃣ BAG WORK
We start to get the heart rate up. Lately the group have been working on Progressive Combinations where movements expand. This gives students an opportunity to put together longer combinations and experiment with new sequences.
3️⃣ CONDITIONING
The fun part! A great way to monitor your fitness levels. Students run through a variety of partner based conditioning drills. In this example one student has free bag training while the other is completing squats and push ups. The reps increase by 2 with every round.
Classes are fun, engaging and very safe.
Beginner friendly and always welcomed.

IN THE NEWS
If you’re a parent, seeing these headlines is confronting.
Behind every story is a young person, a family, and a reminder of the world our kids are growing up in.
Martial arts can teach physical skills. But we believe its greatest value goes far beyond that.
It’s about Self Control, Confidence, Resilience, Respect, Empathy, and Leadership - to name a few.
It’s about helping young people make good decisions when we’re not there to make them for them. By providing them instructors who serve as role models and leaders. Inspiring them to be the best version of themselves.
Because martial arts isn’t just about learning how to defend yourself.
It’s about learning how to conduct yourself.
At JAI, we’re not trying to build better fighters.
We’re trying to build better people.
BLACK BELT QUALITIES
Are you still a Black Belt if you're not wearing it?
Absolutely!
The belt is a symbol of your rank. But the skills of the black belt lies within the individual.
Those skills aren't limited to physical ability. They also include attributes you acquire through your Martial Arts training. Things like Focus, Leadership, Resilience - and many more!
This week we're working with kids on Leadership. An opportunity for students to take centre stage and lead the class in warm up and activities.
Because the good thing about these Black Belt qualities is that you don't have to wait to be a Black Belt to work on them. We start from day 1.

THIS WEEK
What would a Black Belt do when dealt with an obstacle?
That's what we're working on this week.
You don't need to be a Black Belt to start working on Black Belt qualities.
BLACK BELT WEEK🥋
Each week we have a special weekly theme. This week it's about the qualities that make a Black Belt.
•Focus
•Balance
•Technique
•Fitness
•Leadership
On the mats this week we'll have different activities that will challenge students physically and mentally. Some will be fun and exciting, while others will require those Black Belt qualities to come through.
More will be revealed on the mats.
The Black Belt is not just about your skill.
It's about the person you become.
