Holsworthy Rifle Club

A solid roll up for Holsworthy on Saturday. We were at the longest distance of 800m with a difficult South Easterly, varying from 5 right to 1 left later in the day.
Other than Nick doing some load testing for his 6.5 sporter it was all Target rifle on the day, with Barb showing everyone a clean pair of heels with 100.14. Most everybody else manage to get caught i. The quick changing breeze.
Next week we are back down the hill to 300m for the first Grade match for the year. Have a great week all.

Anzac range turned on a great day today for 700m. A fresh south westerly turning to the southeast during the afternoon kept scores down a little at the normally easier distance.
In TR Pete was the only one to manage 100.11, a great shoot considering the wind.
In sporter Nick compiled a 94, with a strong 49 2nd stage and in F standard Peter had a 105, also with a strong stage 2 56.4.
We had a new supporter today, but he slept through Mum’s comeback 😴.

Back to 800 next week, with the MDRA AGM after shooting.

As Barb, Chris and Jim make their way home from representing NSW in the National Teams event in Brisbane, we wanted to say very well done to all.

At last night’s presentation, the NSW Team was on the podium for winning a number of matches that excitingly included ‘The Sweet’ trophy.

Very proud highlights for Holsworthy RC -

- Chris and Jim were the overall top scoring shooter and wind coach.

- Barbara was called out to lead the team to collect their trophy with this being her 15th NSW Open State Team appearance.

- a nice family moment with the top shooters trophy with Barbara’s name on the trophy for top scoring for the NSW Team in 2001 in WA and now nephew Chris’s name to go on for 2026 in QLD.

Another cracking day at Malabar for 800m. Some morning drizzle gave way to a nice day with the flags not lifting off the poles all day. A rarity for Anzac range.
Sporter was taken out by Paul H with a solid 96.7. Paul is showing great promise with his Tikka.
In F class Peter is enjoying his switch to F standard compiling a great 110.3.
Five Target rifle shooters today, with all registering 100’s, including Phillip and Johnson who are both continuing their great NSW Kings form.

The last day of Bisley was another big day for our members.

Issy and Jim shot in the Aussie team in the Mackinnon Match which came second to England by just 10 points.

In the afternoon Jim and Pete competed in the Kings Final with 15 shots at both 900 and 1000 yards in strong gusty winds. Congratulations to Jim for finishing in 6th place. Pete was also well up at 21st. (The winner was UK local Parag Patel).

All three of our members were up on the stage during the presentation collecting individual medals or trophies won during the last two weeks and as part of the Australian team for winning the Overseas match and the Dominion Trophy for teams aggregate for overseas participants.

Very well done all. Safe travels home.

We had a very small squad today for the weekly club shoot, with those away missing the blue sky and sunshine along with the light westerly to northerly breeze.

With direction changing from west with 1 1/2 right to 1 left, it provided good practical experience.

Thanks to all those helping to put up and pack away targets.

Bisley update - we can’t begin to tell you how full and long these days are as we come to the pointy end of this epic event.

Today Issy, Pete and Jim shot the 3 ranges of the Kings Stage 2, with the top 100 going through to the Kings Final tomorrow. Congratulations to Pete and Jim for making the cut, along with 11 fellow Aussie team members. 13 of 26 Aussies through is tremendous- as one local put it “13 of 26, that’s amazing - there’s 600 Brits here!!!”

While Issy didn’t get through to the final, she’s had a great trip with some terrific results including being part of the winning Australian team in the Overseas Match yesterday that beat Geurnsey and Jersey by just 1 point and Germany by 2!

Issy will be Jim’s scorer in the final tomorrow.

Tonight was also the St.Georges Final which saw Jim presented with 4th badge after shooting a nice 75.10 at 900y - Jim was best of the 3 Aussies who were presented with a top 10 badge (shout out to Ben Emms 5th and Donna Negus 10th).

Jim also top-scored with 150.22 for the Australian team in the Kolopore match today which came 2nd to Great Britain by 9 points.
