Congratulations to our Sunshine Coast Sup Club legend Paul Menhinnit, plus Janet Buchan and Loz Stephenson from our sister clubs, for their nominations as PQ 2026 Paddler of the Year awards.
In the relatively short time that Paul has been paddling, he has competed in all the 2026 Qld events including PQ State Championships ( sprints & distance), Beach to Beach, Moreton Bay, Wavebreak Challenge, Clearwater Classic AND National titles in Canberra in May. He will back it up again this Saturday with PQ Ocean Racing Championships here on the Sunny
(?βοΈ) Coast. No doubt another podium finish and another medal for the pool room.
It's great to see that of the 16 paddlers nominated from across all disciplines, 3 are representing Stand Up Paddling, and one from each of our SEQ clubs, all great ambassadors for our sport.
Well done, you all inspire us !
Congratulations to the 16 individuals nominated across seven categories in the 2026 Paddle QLD Annual Awards. β
Thank you to everyone who took the time to recognise the paddlers, coaches, instructors and volunteers making a positive contribution to paddling across Queensland.
The nominations are now being reviewed by the Awards Judging Panel, with the winners to be announced online on Tuesday, 1 September 2026.

A perfect sunny winters day for our Adventure paddle around Old Woman Island brought out 23 keen paddlers. We weren't disappointed! Two circuits of the islands, 2 whales breaching in the distance ( alas, too far away ) , many turtles, and then the local surfers had some unfamiliar competition from a bunch of us on 14 footers . ππ.
Another beautiful day on the water with a bunch of friends enjoying our natural environment. Oh, and the sunrise π

If you were there you'd know Loz stopped during the tech race to render assistance. Here is Nick Yates acknowledging him as they cross the finish line ( nearly) together.

A big thanks to 4670 SUP CLUB INC for running another great Clearwater Classic weekend as part of the Tri Series with Sunshine Coast Sup Club and Brisbane SUP Club .
Saturday's weather had winds of 15-20 knots , making the BOP technical race very challenging and reducing the field to the fierce and fearless.
Sunday was much kinder but still made all paddlers work hard against some wind and tide.
Great to see first time paddlers do so well, as well as our regulars, although winter ills took a few of our best SUPers out of contention.
See you at the Coochie Classic 27th September.
