The Augusta Margaret River Football and Netball Club would like to extend our sincere condolences to all family and friends on the passing of Jim Blain.

We were fortunate to receive these memories of Jim from Laurie Praed, reminding us of the incredible contribution he made to the Augusta Margaret River Football Club over the years.

Jim was an inaugural player when the Club entered the SWFNL in 1966 and went on the build an impressive football career, including:

League Fairest & Best Runner Up - 1969
Reserves Fairest & Best Runner Up - 1974
Reserves Fairest & Best - 1975 & 1978
Reserves Captain - 1979
Reserves Premiership Player - 1980 - Our Club’s first ever Premiership
Assistant League Coach across several seasons
Life Member of the Club

Jim also represented the Club in Superules in 1989, where, as Laurie recalls, he shared plenty of laughs and good times with old teammates and opponents.

“In SWFNL footy, our archenemies were the Collie teams, and behind play incidents were legendary. Frequent incidents involved players carried off the ground unconscious. Well, our first Superules game against Collie was at home, we lent them some players - Peter Bayliss, Peter Walker, Peter Beech - all same first names, then Laurie Craven & Laurie Praed - they started thinking we were somehow taking the p**s! Before the bounce down someone reckoned we should stage a mock punch-up to get their girls involved (about the first and only time we had their support) and of course they were aghast, thinking it was dinkhum. What a laugh - as fate would have it, I was lined up on Jimmy and we just couldn’t do it. But enjoyed the moment.”

Beyond the football achievements, stories like Laurie’s remind us of the character, mateship and sense of humour that Jim brought to the Club.

Rest peacefully Jim.

It is with great sadness that we share the news of the passing of Jo Clarke.

Our deepest condolences and thoughts are with Troy, the kids and Jo’s family and friends during this difficult time.

In Jo’s memory, we will still be going ahead with our fundraising event on AFL Grand Final Day at the club. The event will now hold even greater meaning as we come together as a community to raise much needed funds to support Jo’s family during this heartbreaking time.

We hope to see as many of you there as possible.

The support from local businesses has been incredible, and we now have thousands of dollars worth of prizes up for grabs.

Our thoughts are with the Clarke family. May Jo rest peacefully 🕊️🤍

For the second week in a row, the opposition kicked four goals before we clicked into gear. In a final against a quality side, that creates a very big uphill battle. A battle that I have to say we gave everything we had to. For three quarters, the game was what you want to see in a final. Unfortunately, Souths were able to convert their set shots and chances in general, whilst we missed ours. Throw in a couple of unlucky bounces and we just fell short.

To say I am proud of this group is an understatement. We have some young boys in this group who will really benefit from this season. To sing the song 16 times during a season is something we can always look back fondly on. Our senior boys in the side led the way all season and were tremendous to coach for the last three years. This wasn’t the way we wanted to end this colts journey but it has been an incredibly enjoyable experience.

Thanks to everyone who made the trip yesterday to support our Colts side. The way our crowd erupted after our goals yesterday was truly magical.

Huge congratulations again to our co-captain Tom Cassidy on taking home the South West Colts Medal.
