What happens when you combine 3 big loves: camping, riding bikes and creating routes on maps?

Well, in my case I came up with a pretty good 3 days route in the Aussie South West. An epic loop starting and finishing at Rotary Park in Margs sometime between December 4th-7th.

If you want to tag along, we will be riding through forest, native bush and farming lands, we will connect Margs, Nannup, the Blackwood and the Boranup forest, we will camp at bush campsites and eat from local cafes when possible, we will cover a total of 220km with option of adding a 10-15km loop in the Boranup forest, and more and more.

The time has come for Juan to leave Colombia and there is no other way to "celebrate" than by going on an epic MTB ride. Since I started biking in my homeland in Feb, I was told of "El cane" and "Laguna Negra" as some awesome and f***ing hard spots to bike. I never had the chance in half a year, but now it feels right to make this ride. A farewell ride for Juanito going to these places and finishing in Villa de Leyva. I am happy to go alone, but am always happier to get some Tag Alongers to come and join in the fun! It won't be easy... +55km, 1400m up, 1900m down, and about 40k at above 3000m and up to 3300m at the highest.

El tiempo llegó para Juan de partir de Colombia y no podría haber otra manera de "celebrar" que saliendo a dar una vueltica bien épica en MTB. Desde que comencé a pedalear en mi nativa Boyacá en febrero de este año, escuchaba historias de "El Cane" y "Laguna Negra" como unos de los lugares más del putas y duros pa montar bici. Nunca tuve la oportunidad en los últimos 6 meses pero ahora siento que es el momento adecuado para esta rodada, una despedida para Juanito, conociendo esos lugares y terminando en Villa de Leyva. Me gustaría una aventura así solo, pero la verdad me gustaría muchísimo más que más gente se pegue al parche. No va a ser fácil... +55km, 1400m positivos, 1900m negativos, y cerca de 40km arriba de los 3000m y llegando hasta 3300m.

Welcome to Tag Along Adventures (formerly Open Trails). We came up with this project as a way of sharing our passion for the outdoors with like-minded people, and are hoping to create a community of like-minded adventurers.

What is different? Our intention is to create adventures in different outdoor activities and invite people to tag along. Bikepacking, trail running, canoeing, etc, overnights preferred.

Who can tag along? Anyone who has a decent fitness, appropriate gear and experience in the adventure you want to join.

How much does it cost? Nothing, well you don't have to pay to join, but you do have to pay your own expenses and have your own gear.

Can anyone create an adventure? That's the main idea. Juan loves to plan, but also loves to join someone else's adventure. If you have a crazy adventure idea, just let us know so we can start the community.

Life changes day by day, and for dreamers like me even more! 2023 has been the most challenging year of my life so far, but one thing that never changes is my spirit of adventure, that craving to see new places, exploring the world and sharing with like-minded people.

Over the last four years I have spent so many hours wondering how to make a "living" out of the outdoors. I started Open Trails with the dream to create outdoor experiences in Western Australia and overseas. I may not make any money out of it, but my dreams have taken me to many awesome places.

A new project is coming soon and I want to encourage other people to join in the fun. Anyone want to Tagalong? 😉

A year ago I was still running (almost) full time and I had no idea of what life was gonna become one year from then.

Working as an Outdoor Educator and taking teenagers on expeditions, bushwalking, canoeing, camping, etc, ect, has made me see life in different perspectives.

It is true that "getting lost in nature you will find yourself" and I believe that is the reason why we love Trail running. In my particular case I have found that slowing down the pace and spending more time in the outdoors all together is working like a treat right now for me, maybe is time to organise a PROPER trail running camp?

After all I stil love trail running, but I am soooo much better at camping than running.

Some times you just need to follow you heart and do (for work) what you love the most.

Travelling, adventures and basically living and outdoorsy life had been a dream for many years. I never imagine that one day I would be making a living while being trained on some many outdoor skills, and at the same time guiding young generations of outdoor lovers into a life full of adventures.

Who doesnt love the feeling of riding or running a new trail?

That is what is all about for us at Open Trails, we love trails like no other, we dedicate our life to the outdoors and we see in them just fun, fun and more fun.

We dont run or ride to break records, to step at the top of podiums or to hold FKT's. We hit the trails so we can explore, see new places, make new friends and always go further. Taking one step/pedal at the time and always looking forward for a new trail adventure....

We love trails and we love the outdoors.

Juan found the love for camping and the outdoors at a young age (12yo), and after more than 20 years he has finally taken the risk to close a chapter in his life and start a new journey as an Outdoor Educator. Being able to share that love with others, and making sure that young generations have the chance to experience and live an outdoor life is another of our priorities now.
