Attention all Baysiders - A big August Ahead

24/07/2026

Congratulations to Matt Brace in being awarded the Coach's Award (Male) for Bayside Multisport 2025-2026

Both Matt and Toby Somerville weren't able to attend the Award's Night. So a quick presentation at Manly Pool last night.

Session 3 of the Junior Camp was in the pool. Thanks Manly Pool for the nice warm water.

Started off with the basics with warm up, drills and then to some speed work and timed races. The performances will be the inaugural club swim records.

We finished off with some fun relays to close out a great session.

Thank you to our coaches Chris Howes and Emma Burney.

Bayside Junior Camp - cycling session. Session 2 of the camp was a 1 - 1.5 hour bike ride. Great weather for a winter ride. For some of our younger juniors - the longest rides they had done. The rides had sections where the juniors could push themselves and for the first group an all out sprint on Chelsea Road to the boardwalk revealed their competitive spirits.

Thanks to our road coaches Sammy Monahan, Renee Burney, Phil Davies and Sean Halloran

After the ride morning tea with hot chocolate - thanks for the catering Renee Burney. There was even some time for some to practice their handstands and cartwheels - we had to draw the line at flips.

A great day yesterday for our Junior Triathlon Camp based at Manly Pool.

The first session on injuries, prevention and recovery was presented by Rob O'Neil from Wynnum Manly Physiotherapy. Rob and his assistant "George Bones" conducted a session that engaged our juniors and provided new skills and understanding to prevent injuries.

We at Bayside Multisport are proud to announce that Wynnum Manly Physiotherapy has also become a sponsor of our great club.

A big thanks to Rob to making time to come down and invest some of his knowledge in our emerging triathletes of the future.

The 2026 Bayside BRVT Event is getting close. The Grand Esk Hotel has several rooms on hold for Bayside - this will expire this week. See details below if you are interested:

In the interests of supporting diverse activities and with a view to introducing the wonderful outdoor asset we have virtually on our doorstep, the club has made some arrangements for a weekend in late July 2026 for us to ride the Brisbane Valley Rail Trail Brisbane Valley Rail Trail Guide.
To simplify logistics and to cater for the widest range of capabilities, we have decided to base the weekend in Esk which is a town somewhere near the middle point on the trail. This will allow us to experience the full length of the trail over 2 days but returning to our accommodation in Esk each night. We have also decided that the two riding days are Saturday and Sunday with the Sunday ride being considerably shorter in distance.
The basic itinerary for the weekend is provided below:
• Dates: Friday 24/07/25 to Sunday 26/07/25.
• Travel to Esk after work / school on Friday afternoon (24/07/25), check in, get bikes sorted, team dinner at the Grand Hotel Esk, and sleep
• Saturday - meet at Grand Hotel Esk at 0700am and load the shuttle bus for the trip to Yarraman, arrive and start the ride at about 0900. This is a 94km ride, mostly downhill but still will be a 5-6 hour ride plus breaks. There are plenty of opportunities for a shorter ride and the shuttle bus is very happy to do any number of intermediate drop-offs as needed. We will look to group riders to ensure that distances match your fitness.
• Saturday night - team dinner at the Grand Hotel Esk
• Sunday - ride south to Wulkuraka and either ride back to Esk (big day for advanced riders) or meet shuttle bus at approx 3pm for the return trip up the hill.
Key things to be aware of and actions needed:
1. Whilst this is an event arranged by the club and there will be some help available on the rides by other riders, this should be considered a self-supported ride (food, spares, emergency provisions, etc). Families with capable kids are welcome to join us but the ride is off-road with some quite rough spots including creek crossings, so a level of capability and fitness is needed.
2. The rides will naturally break into groups based on fitness and capability, but we will remind everyone that this is NOT a race, but is a ride in the country affording an opportunity to take in the sights and sounds of rural QLD.
3. Also, finalising accommodation bookings and payment are the responsibility of each person / family. Reservation details and rates are listed below.
4. The ride is not suitable for road bikes. Gravel bikes, Mountain bikes and E-bikes are needed. Our shuttle service is being provided by The Bike Hire Company, based in Blackbutt. Nigel has plenty of bikes to hire so please contact him directly to discuss this if you need to. If you do, please mention you are with Bayside Multisport for the weekend. Contact details are: Email. [email protected] Web. thebikehirecompany.com Ph. 0400 386 304
5. ACCOMMODATION Reservations at Grand Hotel Esk:
o Room Rate per night for Friday and Saturday nights
 $170 per night Queen (4 rooms booked)
 $230 per night (studio – Queen + Single 1 booked)
 $250 per night Family (1 room booked)
o Contact for the Esk Grand Hotel is Brendan Edwards, email: [email protected]
o If there is strong demand we can canvass other accommodation options in Esk.
o Feel free to arrange your own alternate accommodation, just note that departures and drop-offs are currently planned for the Hotel AND team dinners will be there too.
6. SHUTTLE BUS SERVICE - configuration is mini bus with trailer for bikes (and contact details for Nigel are provided above):
o There is no need to contact the Shuttle bus directly for reservations. We will need to confirm numbers for each day to ensure we have sufficient capacity.
o Pickup at Esk on Saturday (25/07) morning ready for a 7.30am departure to Yarraman (top end of the BVRT). Cost per person is $65.
o Pickup at Wulkuraka (southern end of the BVRT) on Saturday afternoon at approximately 3.00pm for return to Esk. Cost per person is $55.
7. ACTIONS:
o To allow us to confirm / extend reservations we need confirmed numbers ASAP (certainly no later than Monday 01/07/26)
o The accommodation currently reserved at the Grand Hotel Esk will be first-in, first-served basis, enquiries direct to the Hotel.
o If we exceed the numbers reserved, then please feel free to make other / own arrangements. We will be happy to assist with additional accommodation as needed, please contact the Club contact.
o Capacity on the shuttle buses is about 25 at the moment, so we definitely need to know total attendee numbers so we can accommodate the transfers for each day and dinner reservations each night.
o To confirm a seat on the Shuttle bus, we will require a confirmation email from each person / group so that this service can be confirmed. If your name is not on the list we won't be able to guarantee a ride.
8. If you have any questions on plans or advice or wish to confirm your attendance, please contact Chris Howes at [email protected]
