Update on the KFC board - ridden a few times now and will be passing on to the next rider to hopefully get some video.

First surf was interesting- with the floatation of the fins as you were going down the wave it would lift the back of the board up and take off at speed so much so you had to change take off stance or you fell off the back with the acceleration! Started without the stabiliser fin but during this session the size of the surf increased- it was holding in fine up to 2 foot but as it got bigger needed the stabiliser. Held its rail fine and speed but had to change turning to bigger arcs - it was a bit of fun!
Hopefully will get more feedback and a video soon 🤙

With the impending price increase coming on paints - it’s time to start looking at our airbrush / spray gun range of paints and see if we can do our own to keep the prices resonable- this is our first sample test. Colour coverage was good, drying time better than the brands we stock.. can be used on eps (foam safe) though slightly too thick consistency at the moment to spray straight from the bottle. Next step - get consistency right, and then colour range - a good range of normal colours, fluorescents and a couple of metallics..

Will keep updating as we go along 🤙

We were thinking… What if you had guys who want to do mals, SUP’s or windsurfers on our portable shaping/glassing rack? One of the guys which work with us, Tom Zinc Surfboards designed this extension! So a poll should we make it?

Did you learn on a coolite surfboard? I had the trusty old blue and white Hanimax but my mate had the KFC Australia coolite which was done by Shane Stedman which when you bought a bucket of chicken you could buy a coolite for about $5 or $10! His was way older(about 10 years old) his had been passed down through his family.. but I was jealous! His had built in fins!! Mine had a rubber fin that was really flimsy.. so time to bring it back!! Don’t know if it will work (probably not.. but it will be fun trying!) Will give you updates on the build as we go! boardporn

We have finished the board and found out a few things- when dying a cloth it gets pulled through a pool of colour on a conveyor belt belt - then it’s treated with a scotch guard to keep the colour from running. This pulls the cloth unnatural ways and opens the weave.. we thought it would drape easier with the weave open but under normal lamination it actually gave the cloth memory and it was way harder to lap around the rails. And with the open weave it swelled up a bit too much so we had to use 1.2L of resin per side.. the other thing was a sanding lap was way harder with the scotch guard it felt like 6oz h**p instead of 3 Oz pineapple cloth .. so back to the drawing board. Next step would be to dye the yarn instead of the cloth. Change to treatment away from scotch guard to another dye stabiliser..
