BODYWORK • BODY TRANSFORMATIONS 🐎

I’ve shown you the BEFORE & AFTER…

But I haven’t really shown you the HOW. 👀

There are key steps to turning a horse into a powerhouse horse — and it’s not just about making them look different on the outside.

Both of these horses have had time off, and both went out and rode beautifully this morning. 🙌

One of the most valuable skills in my toolkit is knowing how to build a horse from the ground up — holistically.

It’s about understanding the whole horse, identifying what needs to change, and having a plan to progressively build strength, balance, movement and capability.

The transformation is the result…

The HOW is the skill.

🐴 TRIMMING YOUR OWN HORSES 🐴

A handy skill to have…

Especially when no one else is coming. 😂

I’ve been having a little trouble securing a farrier lately…

Which is particularly awkward when I AM THE FARRIER. 🤦‍♀️🤣

Apparently being a farrier doesn’t automatically mean I can book myself in.

So, when the horses need doing and the calendar is full, you just have to put your big-girl pants on, grab the tools and get the job done. 😂

The upside?
I never have to pay for the farrier.

The downside?
Is the farrier hates working for free, yes thats is me. 🤣🐴🔨

⚠️ WARNING — GRAPHIC CONTENT

Wounds with horses happen. Sometimes when we least expect them.

They’re stressful for everyone involved, and some injuries absolutely require veterinary care. We’re very lucky to have great vets here in the Lockyer Valley.

But what can make a huge difference to the healing journey is the aftercare.

And one thing that is REALLY important is how well the horse can be handled when it’s sore, frightened or uncomfortable — especially when wound care, needles and bandage changes are involved.

This mare wasn't the easiest patient when she was first injured. She was sore, she wasn't a fan of needles, and wound care was stressful for her.

Fast forward 25 days, and she is an absolute champ. Her bandage changes and wound care can now be done quite easily.

Knowing what to use, when to use it, how to clean the wound and how to manage the ongoing care can make a huge difference to the process.

This is her healing progress over 25 days.

She’s not out of the woods yet, but she’s doing well and, for now, she’s okay. ❤️

So please send this girl some healing vibes — she’s certainly earned them. 🐴❤️

SAFE FROM THE FIRES 🔥
I am overwhelmed with all the offers of support and kindness, from the lovely fellow horse lovers asking if we were ok or if I needed help moving the horses.
It has moved me to tears.

FOAL WAKAN

This is just like our toddlers being curious of the world and needing to use their senses to understand new fun objects.

There is relaxed curious, playful horses and foals 🤔 then there are anxiously curious investigative horses.
Then there are horses trained to be curiously mouthy and it has become a way to cope with the anxiety in the situation.

The important part is to know the body language that separates healthy playful, mouthy, and curiosity from un health anxiety that looks playful mouthy and curious.
