Have you ever felt suuuupppeeerrr motivated to get up and go to the gym as you're going to bed on a Sunday night, and then you wake up on Monday morning to hit snooze?
Ya, we've all been there!
Motivation comes and goes. It's great when it comes up, but it can disappear pretty quickly when the bed is warm, the weather is iffy and you've had a long day at the office.
If you want to exercise consistently, one of the best things you can do is stop relying on motivation to get you there.
Make it easier to get there.
Book the session. Put it on your calendar. Choose movement you actually enjoy. Find somewhere convenient (close to work is handy!). Arrange to meet a friend there.
Most importantly, I think we need to let go of the idea of a "perfect" workout. If you think that anything less than an hour is a waste of time, you're wrong! 20 minutes totally counts. A lighter session counts. Going for a walk counts.
Starting again after a week off absolutely counts.

Exactly what I make as a personal trainer...

You don’t need fancy gym equipment to start strengthening your back and core.
In fact, these simple exercises can be done at home and adapted to suit your ability.
Complete 2–3 rounds, resting when you need to.
The aim isn't to race through it.
Slow, controlled movement wins every time.
And remember: exercises can always be modified. If something causes pain rather than normal muscular effort, stop and choose an alternative that feels comfortable.
A strong core isn't about having visible abs.
It helps support your spine, improve your balance and make everyday movement easier.
Save this one and give it a go at home.

Sometimes we make being “healthy” far more complicated than it needs to be.
The perfect workout plan.
The perfect morning routine.
The perfect diet.
The perfect number of steps.
But if your version of health requires your entire life to revolve around maintaining it, how sustainable is it really?
Healthy habits can be much simpler.
Move your body regularly.
Build strength.
Eat food that makes you feel good.
Rest when you need it.
Get outside.
Do things you enjoy.
And find ways to make those things part of your normal life rather than something you constantly have to motivate yourself to do.
You don't need to organise your entire life around fitness.
You just need to make movement your new normal.

A good personal trainer isn’t just standing beside you counting to 10.
Anyone can do that. 😉
A good PT gets to know you.
They notice when something doesn’t feel right. They listen when you tell them you’re tired, stressed, sore or simply not feeling it that day.
They know when to encourage you to give a little more — and when pushing harder isn’t the answer.
They adapt your training to your body, your fitness level, your strengths, your limitations and the things you actually want to achieve.
And importantly, they help you build confidence in what your body can do.
Because personal training should be exactly that: personal.
You don’t need to fit into someone else’s idea of fitness.
You don’t need to keep up with the person beside you.
And you definitely don’t need to be yelled at, judged or made to feel like you’re not trying hard enough.
You need movement that works for your body and your life.
That’s what we do at Fitness Manouvers.

Someone asked me the other week why I don't showcase before and after's on my page. They said they would have booked in to see me earlier if they'd known that the way I approach fitness, is also very effective for those with aesthetic goals.
The truth is, I've never wanted to run Fitness Manouvers like that... it's just not aligned with my brand ethos.
There's plenty of ways to measure your progress in fitness (weight loss or weight gain, cm change or even tracking how much you can lift) but what really matters is how that translates into the real world.
Did you make it through a week at work without your back aching?
Did you notice that you could carry the groceries in with one load - instead of multiple trips?
Was it easier to play with your kids or grand kids on the floor?
Did you go for a leisurely walk on the weekend and realise you'd gone a lot further than you thought you were capable of?
The biggest gain we can get from fitness is that life just feels a little easier in our body and the more we lean into that, the more it's worth noticing!

A lot of clients come to me and share that they've been through cycles of commitment and "falling off the wagon" for years - sometimes even decades.
If movement has always been something you start, stop and then feel guilty about... the answer is probably not "trying harder" next time.
A study from earlier this year followed 721 women and found that exercise adherence was associated with things like feeling self-efficient and more control of your health.
Instead of focusing on their image, the women who consistently work out were focused on how exercise made them feel and it became their place of calm.
This study actually backs up what I've been saying for the last 15 years. When you find enjoyment and empowerment in movement, you're far more likely to maintain motivation and form lifelong habits.
As a personal trainer, my goal is to help you find movement that you will love. For some clients, weight training is an absolute game changer. For others, boxing is amazing or some love pilates on the reformer.

Is personal training worth the time, effort and money? I can't answer that for you.
But I can say that the results I achieved working with a PT as a client and the outcomes I see in my clients, are always worth it.
Feeling stronger than they did last month.
Finding movement they don't dread.
Becoming someone who trusts their body again.
Maintaining muscle mass (even while aging)
Progressing slowly instead of aging.
If you're ready to start feeling better, stronger and fitter in your body - reach out. I have a couple of spots available for 1:1 clients or grab a friend and we can book in a semi private session.

Unfortunately, due to lack of numbers we have pulled the pin on the next round of Strong Start.
If group training is something that you're interested in, please feel free to fill in the contact form on my website and request to be added to the wait list.
You'll be the first in the know when we decide to recommence group training at FM.
Thank you Tony for running such wonderful groups! The feedback has been incredibly positive and we hope to pick up again down the track.
Kate.
