Associate Professor Carol Douglas has been a driving force behind training the next generation of specialist palliative care doctors across Queensland.

With her retirement, she leaves behind an incredible legacy. A legacy that was recognised earlier this year with the Kings Birthday Honour – the Public Service Medal - for her outstanding contribution to palliative medicine in Queensland. Her dedication to developing integrated education pathways, supporting specialist training and advocating for equitable end-of-life care has shaped the system that exists today.

We sat down with Carol and discussed her life, learnings and what she hopes to see for the future of palliative care.

“I’ve always thought of my work has been all about giving back to the public.”
