Ruth Everuss, our namesake was recently honored in Parliament for her continued work within the Aquatic industry

Recently, Auburn MP Lynda Voltz spoke in Parliament about the importance of water safety, swimming and our local leisure centres across the Auburn electorate — particularly as we head towards the warmer months.

She highlighted the Auburn Ruth Everuss Aquatic Centre, affectionately known by locals as Auburn Pool, as one of our community’s great local treasures.

Named after local swimming legend Ruth Everuss, who represented Australia at the Rome Olympics and went on to teach generations of local children to swim, Auburn Pool has played an important role in our community for decades.

It has also helped nurture outstanding athletes, including Paralympic champions Tim Hodge and Ricky Betar.

But as Ms Voltz pointed out, the importance of Auburn Pool goes far beyond elite sport. For generations of local families, it has been a place where children learn to swim, build confidence and independence, friendships are formed, and people of all ages stay active and healthy.

With summer approaching, these facilities become even more important. Swimming lessons, water safety and access to safe aquatic facilities can help our community enjoy the water while staying safe.

Auburn Ruth Everuss Aquatic Centre is a reminder that our local pools are not simply recreational facilities — they are community institutions that bring people together, support health and wellbeing, and create memories that last a lifetime.

As we look towards another Australian summer, it’s worth recognising the important role our local leisure centres play in keeping our community active, connected and safe around water. 🏊‍♂️☀️

It's Loneliness Awareness Week.

This August, we're joining the call to make room for connection and raise awareness of the impact loneliness and social isolation can have on people and communities.

Connection doesn't have to be a big gesture. It could be sharing a smile, saying hello, inviting someone to join you, or taking a moment to check in. These small but deliberate actions can help people feel welcome, included and connected.

We're proud to be a place where people can connect, stay active and feel part of the community.

A bucket list isn't only about adventure. Sometimes it's about keeping yourself and the people you love safe.

Learning to swim is a skill for life. It gives you confidence, helps keep you safe around water, and lets you enjoy swimming with family and friends.

Parents, your children learn by watching you. If they see you learning to swim, they'll know it's never too late to learn something new. Choose swimming instead of fear. Build your confidence, enjoy the water, and create lasting memories with your family.

Make learning to swim part of your bucket list. It's one decision that could make a lifetime of difference.

Not all beaches are supervised.
