GET BEHIND BRENDAN | Supporting Sportscare

Our Club Chaplain, Brendan Jacques, has made an incredibly positive impact on the Eastern Suns community, providing support, encouragement and a listening ear to people across our club.

On Saturday, 10 October, Brendan will be taking on the Swan River Bridges Loop, aiming to walk at least 10km (knees permitting! 😅) to raise funds for Sportscare.

Sportscare helps place chaplains like Brendan into sporting clubs and communities across WA, and Brendan would love to see a future where every NBL1 club has access to a chaplain.

SUPPORT BRENDAN & DONATE HERE: https://sportscare10.com.au/brendan-jacques

We know firsthand just how valuable Brendan has been to the Suns. Alongside chaplains already supporting clubs including Warwick, Lakeside and Mandurah, these incredible people provide another layer of care and connection within our basketball communities.

We’d love to see more clubs benefit from having someone like Brendan in their corner. 💛🖤

Please join us in getting behind Brendan, supporting his walk and helping Sportscare continue to grow its impact across WA sport.

👏 Good luck, Brendan — the entire Suns family is behind you!

Sacrifice

There is no I in team.

Most of you would have heard of this saying and it is true that there is no letter I in the word TEAM.

There are however generally collectively 10 or more I’s in a team.

Everyone who plays has been at some level the best player of a team, generally when playing in a domestic comp. As your skill level progresses and you get into higher level competitions – WABL, NBL1 etc., that may not always be the case though. There may just be someone better than you in that team. You may even be the least talented in the team.

For teams to be successful, it requires players to sometimes accept lesser roles in order for that team to be as successful as it can be. That can be a tough adjustment if you have been the best player on a team for a long time. Frustration with a lesser role can lead to team cohesion not being at its best which then leads to teams maybe performing not as well as they could. This year I have seen firsthand players struggle with this but have managed to get through without causing the sort of disharmony that can sabotage a team’s season.

If you have found yourself having trouble accepting a lesser role this season, I would encourage you to speak to someone, preferably your coach about the way you have felt to ensure that going forward, everyone is speaking from the same playbook.

For those teams that have made finals, I wish you all the best as you all work together to advance as far as you can and who knows, maybe even win the grand final.

If you find yourself having trouble expressing how you have felt and need to talk, feel free to contact me at [email protected] or you can DM me via Facebook, Messenger or Instagram. I’m more than happy to have chat if you need it.
