John's time away from Tassie is drawing to a close and will be back to kick off the Spring Season of Ascent Fitness' walking and workout programs.

Our signature guided group walking program on the Launceston Urban Fringe Trail starts in October, and the crew at Ascent Fitness' Blue Sign Hiking Society will be ready for adventure!

To make sure he's up to task, John walked the 7 Hills of Edinburgh, a 29km circuit with 930m of elevation.

Fair to say he's fit and ready to get started for Spring!

After a couple of weeks being tied up doing other things, it was good to see John back on the trails!

The Balmoral Estate, in the north of Scotland, is notable for two things: Balmoral Castle, a private property of the British Royal Family and Prince Albert's Cairn, a monument commissioned by Queen Victoria after the loss of her husband.

The pyramid-shaped cairn has been on John's must-visit list and, today, it was visited. The skills taught at Ascent Fitness to help be safe in unfamiliar environments were all part of a successful day out.

John's looking forward to the start of the Group Exercise Programs in September! Register now at www.ascentfitness.com.au

The highest peak in County Cornwall scored a visit today.

More a walk than a hike, these days out can present dangers resulting from poor preparation and ill-attention due to thinking, erroneously, that less of each is needed in these environments. After all, a rolled ankle is a rolled ankle, no matter where it happened!

But, when you've got a great prep method, like we have for our hiking training, you're ready for adventures big and small!

We also choose to partner with Kim, from MTA Travel, to get the big parts of more civilised itineraries squared away.

When your hiking skills are on point, they're ready to go at a moment's notice!

While touring the Rock of Cashel, the guide motioned towards a mountain in the distance, and the scoop in its ridgeline.

The story goes that the Devil got annoyed with St Patrick and bit the mountain. The rock was spat out and created the Rock of Cashel. What remained was 'Devil Bit Mountain'. That piece of mythology aside, John had his next hike locked in!

With the right skills, a short story became a great day out. We can teach you to do all of that. Message us to start a chat!

Ascent Fitness' hiking skills training can help your holidays away from home.

How? Follow the snaps in this post to find out. We can teach you to do this! 🤓

While in Ireland, John spotted a mountain on the horizon. By using mapping apps, and other tech employed in planning any AF hike, John arrived at the trailhead knowing all that was needed to get started.

That doesn't mean that random things won't come up during the hike. But good planning means that the unexpected is managed far better.

Improved hiking fitness and capability improves confidence to try new and challenging hikes safely.

Our training methods were on show in Ireland this week with John summiting Carrauntoohil - Ireland's highest peak. At 1,039m, and a pointy top, the views on a good day are suitably spectacular!

Apart from physical improvement, Ascent Fitness delivers tuition in all of the practical skills, and gaining knowledge in equipment and technology. Message us here to chat about your hiking bucket list!

What is the link between Ireland's most iconic peak, and Grade 9 students at Launceston's St Patrick's College? Two words: Croagh Patrick.

'Croagh' is an Anglicised word from Irish for 'mountain' and Croagh Patrick has been a site of religious significance before Christendom arrived to the Emerald Isle. But, it's where St Patrick is believed to have fasted for 40 days and there has been a church on the summit since the 5th Century.

All that aside, it's also a great walk and provides for amazing views at the top.

Hiking training at Ascent Fitness can enhance any holiday, giving you exportable skills that can be applied anywhere with confidence. Get in touch for a chat about your plans.
