Time Drops and Records Drop!
What a meet! MST’s Long Course Long Distance meet ran like clockwork today — smooth, professional and without a hitch! 🙌
The swimmers were happy, the officials were happy… in fact, it looked like pretty much everyone was happy! 😊
A huge shout-out to our fantastic timekeepers (and there were LOTS of you!). The time spent getting everyone up to speed with the new Time Drops system clearly paid off. 👏
And a very special thank you to Pauline, Steve, Di and Ray, who put in many hours behind the scenes to get Time Drops up and running — and running so smoothly. What a great addition to our meets! 👏👏
And then came the icing on the cake… 🎂

25 MST members spent their day working through the strengths, weaknesses and opportunities for our organisation. Some rigorous, robust, exciting and thoughtful discussions around our future directions.

🏊‍♂️ DKHAC READY FOR LCLD! 🏊‍♀️

The new boom is in place at the Doone Kennedy Hobart Aquatic Centre (DKHAC) — but before we could dive into our next big event, there was one important job to do… re-measure the pool📏

With World Aquatics (WAq) standards requiring precise pool measurements (not too long, not too short 😉), we needed to make sure DKHAC was ready to host official record-breaking performances.

Enter our man-of-many-talents, Mendelt Tillema! 🦸‍♂️
Mendelt has completed the re-measurement, and we’re excited to confirm that DKHAC has been approved as compliant and is ready for racing!

That means we’re all set for the MST Long Course Long Distance Championships on Saturday 15 August — with State and National Records up for grabs! 💪🏅

Tribute to Chris Wedd 💙

Masters Swimming Tasmania is deeply saddened by the passing of Chris Wedd.

Chris was one of Tasmania's foremost swimming coaches, dedicating decades to developing swimmers and coaches across the state. His swimming and water polo journey began at the Glenorchy Pool when it first opened in the 1960s. Many current Masters Swimming Tasmania members have fond memories of training in Chris's squads at Glenorchy and, later, at the Hobart Aquatic Centre.

Chris passed away yesterday following a courageous seven-year battle with pancreatic cancer. Throughout that time, he worked tirelessly to raise awareness of the disease, demonstrating the same determination and generosity that defined his life.

Chris was a valued friend of Masters Swimming Tasmania, particularly in the area of coach education. He played a pivotal role in establishing coaching courses in the 1990s and mentored many aspiring coaches throughout his career. In 1998, he delivered the first Masters advanced coaching course (Level 2M), helping to develop eight Masters coaches who went on to contribute significantly to our sport. He also continued to provide coaching guidance and support to the Hobart Aquatic Masters club for many years.

More recently, it was always a pleasure to catch up with Chris at our competitions, where he proudly cheered on his beloved daughter, Gabrielle.

Chris's legacy lives on in the countless swimmers and coaches whose lives he influenced through his knowledge, encouragement and passion for swimming.

Our heartfelt condolences go to our Treasurer, Gabrielle, and to the entire Wedd family at this very sad time.

Earning a place in the World Aquatics Masters Top 10 Rankings is a remarkable achievement. It reflects not only outstanding performances in the pool but also the dedication, discipline and perseverance required to compete alongside the world's best Masters swimmers.

Masters Swimming Tasmania proudly congratulates the six Tasmanian swimmers recognised in the 2025 World Aquatics Individual Top 10 Rankings. Your achievements inspire fellow swimmers across our state and showcase the strength of Tasmanian Masters swimming on the international stage.

A special congratulations goes to:
🥇 Amanda Duggan (THB) – ranked in eight individual events, including World No. 1 in the 1500m Short Course Freestyle.
🥇 Wendy Winzenberg (TVA) – ranked in seven individual events, including World No. 1 in the 200m Long Course Butterfly.

Congratulations to.Tony Forman (TAC) who has had a stellar few days in the tropics at the MSQ Masters Swimming Queensland State Championships in Townsville this week.

Tony won a swag of gold in the pool and finished off with another gold medal performance in the 3klm Open Water Swim today.

To top it all off Tony was presented with the Championship Visitor's Award for his outstanding performances.
