So very fortunate and what an incredible privilege to be a student and club instructor for Grandmaster Kim.
Our connection, our history.

On Saturday we had the honour of hosting our Brisbane clubs, for a last grading for the year.
It is always great to see our other clubs and connect with our wider Hwa Rang Do family.
Well done to those students who graded. The calibre was high and you all should be proud of your continued development in our style.
Also it was great to have Grand Master Kim officiate our grading and hold a technical session afterwards.

Congratulations to those that graded last night. Great effort and commitment shown to the art by Bayside HwaRang Taekwondo Academy, Brisbane Inner East Hwarangdo and Hwa Rang Taekwondo Red Hill.

Also a huge congratulations, for the black belts who received their next elevation in rank over many years of continued study and passion for Hwa Rang Tae Kwon Do Australia.

Miss Paris received her 3rd Degree and I received my 4th Degree and we could be more proud of our efforts.

It was great to share such a wonderful event with friends and family of HRD, special thanks to seeing Giru HwaRangdo make the trip down as well. Can’t wait to catch up again in TNQ.

Really enjoyed tonight’s session. Everyone was dripping from the exertion of doing solid poomsae and drills at the end. Finishing strong - well done.

I know from personal experience, when dealing with “Stigma”, can start simply from doubting oneself. To full blown, debilitating inactivity and shunning the world in which you live in.

The truth is, it may surprise you. That the amount of energy and time, we give to Stigma. Is in fact polar opposites, to the truth. That for most part, people in general find themselves more interesting.

Give yourself the chance to be brave and push aside Stigma. Spend that time building connections with others. If all that fails, get YOURSELF to CLASS and train harder!

Thank you students for making it another great week.

My thoughts are inspired by the below image and also our discussion around the 5 Tenants of Tae Kwon Do.

Courtesy, Integrity, Perseverance, Self-Control, and Indomitable Spirit.

We may find it difficult at times to navigate situations, that trigger a fight or flight response. It is said that our emotions can get the best of us, it’s true.

With practice and guidance you can create space, between how you’re reacting to a situation and how you want to feel about the situation - after it is all over.

When you are feeling angry or frustrated, practice deep breathing between saying the 5 Tenants in your mind. Courtesy, Integrity, Perseverance, Self-Control, and Indomitable Spirit.

If that doesn’t work! GET YOURSELF TO CLASS and train harder!

Thank you to Monday and Wednesday night classes. So insightful and purposeful.

An old or new Injury… we have all had one or known of someone, in our care or periphery that has one.

There is a proclivity to want to “protect” the injury. Feeling pain is never a nice thing. Isn’t it?

So what is the normal thing to do? Without insights, context or professional services, we normally stop doing what caused the pain to begin with. Until we feel no more pain.

The pain maybe gone forever? Maybe not. Maybe it is just waiting to show up, unannounced. So then what? Give up on doing the thing that caused injury.

Or you seek advice.

Just like in class, your instructor is your guide. Trust the process and listen to your body. Adjust the movement into smaller steps and let discomfort be your guide… oh by the way… you may have noticed you have let go of something.

The need to protect your pain. Just let it go. You can’t develop a path to recovery, if you’re holding onto something that doesn’t serve you any longer. If all else fails, GO YOURSELF TO CLASS!

Been reflecting on Monday nights class and wanted to share a thought.

We are our own worst critic. Given enough bandwidth, our “ego” can feed us a narrative that can make our aspirations insurmountable.

So why do we choose to train? For most students and instructors, there is an aspiration to learn, improve and become more capable.

If I may suggest a practice or habit, that may help in realising one’s potential. That is to stop listening to your ego feeding you negative/toxic dialogue and start listening to your body.

Your body doesn’t lie…

Pay attention to how your body feels when training, when testing out the technique. If you are struggling with it, then ask questions. Don’t struggle in silence. Your instructor is your guide.

Lastly, be patient and become comfortable in realising. That all good things in life takes time. Don’t rush, ask questions and listen to your body.

If all that fails - GET YOURSELF TO CLASS!
