Swipe to see what's been happening in our lanes lately.
A move-up after four weeks. A first place at a school carnival. These are real families sharing real moments, and we wanted to celebrate them properly.
"My daughter has absolutely loved every moment since starting her lessons, only about 4 weeks ago. She started in Orange Tails and only a few weeks later she moved up to the next level." - Sally Meshel
"Our eldest grandson got first in backstroke and second in freestyle. This is a credit to the swimming school, being able to motivate him and coach and polish his strokes." - Allen Comben
This is what happens when a child is in the right environment and they're ready to grow. The move-ups and the race wins matter. But so does the quiet confidence that builds underneath them.
Has your child had a moment like this lately? We'd love to hear it.

Bubbles everywhere. Then the grin.
That tiny underwater moment after a big jump, arms out, completely committed. Then they surface looking for you, and the look on their face is just pure joy.
Twenty-five years of this and the jump is still one of my favourite things to watch.
You can't jump and hold back at the same time. It's all in. The water comes up and holds them, every single time, and something in them knows it. They learn it in their body before they could ever find words for it.
This is what winter swimming is. Lesson by lesson. Jump by jump. The trust gets built when no-one's even noticing it's happening.
What's your child's favourite part of being in the water?

The morning a child goes from dragging their feet to asking when their next lesson is.
That turnaround doesn't happen by accident. It almost always comes down to one teacher who saw that specific child and found the right way in.
Not the child in the lane. The one who was scared, or stubborn, or needed five extra minutes at the wall before they were ready. The one who responds to something particular, and it takes real attention to figure out what that is.
"Indigo has absolutely turned around our youngest. Thanks to her, he now loves going to swimming lessons every week."
Dannica, thank you. And Indigo, this is exactly why you do what you do.
We are proud of this team every single day. The kind of teaching that changes a child's relationship with the water for life is the only kind we're interested in.
Does your child have a teacher who made the difference for them?

Six months old. That's where it started.
Two little girls, barely sitting up, discovering water for the first time. That early stage is all warmth and song and building a quiet trust between a tiny body and something much bigger than itself.
That was ten years ago.
Both girls are now in squads.
"We have been coming for 10 years to In The Deep. Our 2 girls loved starting in the pool at 6 months of age and both have excelled into squads. Thanks to Sasha and her team."
Joshua, thank you. A decade is a long time to trust someone with your kids. We don't take that lightly.
Ten years of lessons. Ten years of showing up, week after week, even when life got busy or someone had a terrible lesson and you wondered whether it was worth it.
It's always worth it.
Did your child start with us as a baby? We'd love to know where they're at now.

Our pool has seen thousands of first splashes.
Tiny arms reaching for the wall for the first time. Goggled faces breaking the surface and looking up to find someone clapping. The exact moment a child realises their body can do something it couldn't do yesterday.
It's a special place. We take its care seriously.
Just before the pandemic we upgraded our filtration completely. We now run ozone UV through a Brauer Advanced Oxidation System. It's the same technology used in the best aquatic facilities in the country. No chlorine smell. No red eyes. Water that's genuinely clean, not just treated.
We're also HealthySwim certified, which holds us to independent water quality standards.
The teachers and the kids deserve the best water we can give them. That's not going to change.
Is water quality something you think about when choosing a swim school?

There's a thought that arrives every year, right about now. We'll take a break over winter and pick it back up when it warms up.
It's a fair thought. The mornings are dark. The towels never quite dry. There's footy and the flu and a hundred reasons the pool starts to feel like a summer thing.
But here's what twenty-five years has taught me. A swimming skill doesn't pause. It unravels.
Three months out of the water and the body forgets the rhythm it spent a whole year building. Not all of it. But enough that spring becomes a term of relearning instead of moving forward.
That's the part nobody mentions. The families who swim through winter don't start summer — they continue it. While everyone else is scrambling back to where they were in March, these kids are already past it. Calmer. Stronger. Genuinely ready for the beach.
And honestly, winter is where we do our best work. Smaller classes. No beach-day no-shows. Week after quiet week of the consistent repetition that turns a stroke into something a child just... has. The water's a balmy 32 degrees. Nobody's rushing. It's the most underrated season we've got.
The child who keeps swimming through the cold is a different swimmer by December. Every time.
So before you pencil in that break — picture September. Where do you want them standing when the water warms up again?

There's a moment just before you dive in.
The sky still pale. The water dark and cold. Nobody else around.
That's Bronte in winter. And I've been doing this since I was a kid.
I grew up in this pool. Cliff jumped here as a nine-year-old, lifeguarded at Icebergs in my twenties, and now, at 51, I'm still turning up on winter mornings, jumping in, and walking up to McPherson Street for a coffee with wet hair.
It's my favourite place on the planet.
Ocean pools are something Sydney does like nowhere else. Carved into the rocks, open to the weather, cold and salty and free. They're not glamorous. They don't need to be.
What I love most is that they're for everyone. The older swimmer doing their slow steady laps. The little one who just worked out freestyle and can't quite believe what their body can do.
Swimming gave me this. A whole relationship with the water, with this city, with myself. I think about that every time I'm here.
What's your favourite spot to swim in Sydney?

Not every child walks through our gates and falls in love with the water straight away.
Some take a whole term before they trust the pool. Some cry at the edge for weeks before something quietly shifts. Some need a teacher who sees past the resistance to the child underneath.
We don't rush that. We stay consistent. Same structure, same teachers, same steady reassurance that the water is safe and so are we.
And then one day, it clicks.
"The structure, consistency and the wonderful swim teachers have really helped my little one progress and build confidence in the water."
The kids who get there almost always have parents who stuck with it on the hard weeks too. That's the part that doesn't show up on the report card.
Is your little one still working through the battle? We see you. We're here.

Upside down. Spinning. Mid-somersault on the way to the wall.
In the water, the rules are different.
You can stand on your hands. You can turn yourself inside out between one breath and the next. You can be completely weightless. The things your body can do in here, you can't do any of them on land.
Water is the only playground that genuinely defies gravity.
These are our squad kids working on their turns. But you'd be forgiven for thinking they were just playing. Because they are. The best athletes never stop being kids about it.
I've been in and around the water my whole life and it still makes me feel young. Completely free. Like the whole world is made of possibilities.
I don't think you can get old in the water. It just doesn't let you.
What's your favourite thing to do in the water that you can't do anywhere else?
