It's not just recent bats that roll through the doors, occasionally pieces of history come in for a bit of love.
Back to the days when bats were half the size they are now and not ridiculously dried out or bleached.
When their owners would religiously oil, prepare and look after their "tools".
These won't hit a ball again but have sentimental value to the families of their owners, so we try to preserve as much of their original character as possible, and give them a freshen up so they can be passed on to further generations. Pretty rewarding stuff

Following on from my recent reel, here's a collection of bats that I turned up. Most made from timbers I had around the shop and also sourced some American timber from a local supplier. All these were sent to a friend in the US last December. It's extremely rewarding to jump out of the comfort zone every now and again and try something different. From left to right on the last pic -

American Cherry
Laminated Hard Maple
Laminated Tasmanian Oak
Then the final one, was asked when I was in the US if I could make a bat with a cricket bat handle in it.
Why not?

After 9 years, some brilliant humans are still donating bats to me to refurb and send over to Vanuatu Cricket . Some big tournaments coming up this year so the timing is perfect

Nice to see the Blue Classic getting some runs in the Dowling Shield today. Bit biased but the kid holding it goes alright too
