🚨 Skipper alert 🚨 2026-27 sees the return of Akash Soeny as our 1st XI captain. There’s a changing of the guard in the Magoos with the people’s man Rhys Ellis taking on the leadership for the first time. And the old adage ‘if it ain’t broke, don’t fix it’ rings true seeing Alex Thomson continuing his successful tenure as captains of the 3s.

Meet Alexander Moss - our second new international arrival hailing from Fordhouses CC, the very same club as Deeners premiership hero Adam Peat and our resident star Michael Gallear. A batting all rounder with a solid head, Alex accumulates runs and is a skillful medium pacer adding some quality depth and variation to the attack. He’ll also be getting involved around the club, helping coach our juniors and passing on a bit of English cricketing wisdom to the next generation of Deeners.

Welcoming Alex to the Deener Army. As is customary, he will be brandished with a nickname as soon as he lays a toe on the turf at Hays, but with so many to choose from we’re reluctant to let the cat out of the bag. Get around him.

Meet Henry Caruana - our new international arrival hailing from Wiltshire CC. The young gun has some pace, generates bounces, hits the seam, cuts the ball and swings it a mile - the full bag. Handy with the stick too. Happy days at Hays. He’ll also lend a hand with our junior program, giving the young Deeners a chance to learn a thing or two about Baz Ball! Happy days at Hays.

Welcoming Henry to the Deener Army (although we suspect he’ll be known as Corona from first training onwards). Get around him.

Preseason kicks off tomorrow. We’ve booked a couple of lanes at Hawthorn Cricket Centre to warm up the bodies and work out some of the winter niggles. Block out the diaries.

We’re getting the band back together!

The first Saturday in October marks the start of 2026-27 season and our quest for more shiny hardware. We’re looking forward to returning to the hallowed grounds of Hays Paddock, opening up the social rooms, firing up the BBQ and welcoming the Deener family to another season of success.

Semi Finals time for the Deener Army. How good!

The Magoos are at the home of cricket tomorrow, up against Alphington in the LOC1 semi final. Hays has loved the recent rains and is looking as good as it was in Round 1.

The 3s mosey on down to Mayfield Park to take on St. Pauls Oakleigh. It was a massive turnout at training last night with the boys putting in a solid session on the middle deck.

The forecast has overcast conditions and mild weather, which to a swing bowler sounds just about perfect!

Not an easy post to write. Our 1s suffered a loss on Saturday, bringing their 2025/26 season to an end. Cricket can be the most beautiful game but it can also be brutal. It stings, but preseason started on Sunday and we look good. No rest!

The Magoos were dominant over Malvern Valley with Bull (76) and Tin Man (55) taking control of the innings, and Agga, Nakkas and Whip each with two scalps. On to the semi final at Hays this Saturday. Equally as dominant, the 3s rolled Blackburn for 58. Ravi scored 62. Do the math. Also semi final bound this Saturday against St. Pauls at Mayfield Park. Get behind them.

Unfortunately our U14 boys went down to Holy Trinity last Friday night, but what a stellar season these young lads have had. Sensational team camaraderie and sensational individual performances. The future is bright at Deener Land. Also bright - out U12 boys who are into the granny after defeating Burwood. Massive!

Final shout is to our Smash Series Women’s team who had another win last night. 2 from 2. Someone take a camera please. We need content. From what I hear we’ve quite the squad.
