What a weekend! A massive full circle moment. Last year I visited the Blue Mountains at every chance whilst touring playing music. This year I followed a gut feeling to move here, because I truly love the nature, the trails and the slower feel of the towns here. More than anything, it’s a place I’m deeply curious about.

About a month ago we met @tony.williams1965 on our favourite trail ‘Perry’s Lookdown’ and shared a solid 10 minute chat mid run over the minor fact we were both wearing @t8.run shorts and he then proceeded to very convincingly twist our arms into entering the @hounslow_classic ❤️ In the lead up to that day, @joshlynott and I had been running lots and not seeing many crew out on the trails, and Tony’s enthusiasm and love for the region got us amped to meet more crew from the area.

The goal of the weekend was to get involved in the local trail community, and celebrate getting to race on familiar trails that have inspired me, given me a sense of freedom, awe and silence. No matter what is going on in life, I feel at one, held and at home in these beautiful natural places, and exploring it everyday is one of the greatest sources of joy and wonder in my life.

With regards to the race, that was the hardest thing I’ve done in my life, full stop. My good mate @cameronlkelsall has been helping me with training and racing advice, and helped me to maintain an intensity I didn’t know I was capable of, mentally or physically. After such cool weather, the day was a scorcher, and running around in a jacket and buff in the middle of the day for the week leading up didn’t seem so stupid after all. Anyone who got out there on that course is a hero. What an experience.

One of my favourite weekends, from bib collection, racing on Saturday, and crewing on Sunday. The kind people, beautiful views and relaxed vibe of the event will be something I can’t wait to experience again in the future. Get around it next year!!!

Solo Hounslow session on a wet cold day that turned out pretty good running weather.
Did the 16km course but started at Govetts Leap instead of All View. Didn’t do the start/finish as it’s on the property but the course will be pretty much spot on 16.3km advertised.
This is no ‘easy’ option of the two Hounslow Classic distances. I got 780m without the climb from the cliff top track to the property where the finish will be (advertised 823m).
I think there’ll be many using many of the minutes of the 4 hours until cut off.
I think I’ll be using them too on Sunday, Day 2 of the Monster Double.
Get on the stairs if you want to do well at Hounslow.
Just under 5 weeks to go!

Another tough session on the Hounslow Classic course - Perry’s to Lockleys and a bit extra out towards Mt Hay Road.
Great stair and hill training.
Great to see plenty of runners out there training.
Gotta say it again - poles are very effective on the climbs up Perry’s and Lockleys for most abilities.
