Lawn bowls might look like a gentle game, but it has plenty of physical, mental and social benefits β and you donβt have to be an elite bowler to enjoy them! πΏ
πΏ Physical benefits
Improves balance and coordination β bending, stretching, walking and delivering the bowl all work together.
Gentle exercise β you can walk a surprising distance during a game without the high impact of running sports.
Builds strength and flexibility β particularly through the legs, core, shoulders and arms.
Improves mobility β regular play helps keep the body moving and active.
Suitable for a wide range of ages and abilities β you can play at your own pace.
π§ Mental benefits
Sharpens concentration β reading the green, judging distance and planning your shot all require focus.
Develops strategy and problem-solving β every end presents a different challenge.
Helps relieve stress β getting outdoors and concentrating on the game can be a great mental reset.
Keeps the brain active β remembering tactics, adapting to conditions and making decisions keep your mind engaged.
π Social benefits
Great way to meet people β especially if you're new to town or looking to expand your social circle.
Builds friendships and community β bowls naturally creates plenty of opportunities for conversation and laughs.
Inclusive and welcoming β people can play socially or competitively.
Something to look forward to each week β a regular game can become a great part of your routine.
π And the unofficial benefits...
You get to blame the green when the bowl goes somewhere it shouldn't.
You develop an impressive vocabulary for describing a "good" or "bad" bowl.
You get fresh air, a few laughs and hopefully a cold drink afterwards. πΊ
And, most importantly, you can discover that bowls is nowhere near as boring as your mates think it is!
In short: lawn bowls is a low-impact sport that combines exercise, coordination, strategy, fresh air and friendship β with a healthy dose of banter thrown in. πΏπ―
